Description
Does anyone remember Trap Monsters? Not like Paleozoic, but the monsters that were treated as Continuous Trap cards in your Monster Zone. The Deck (yes, a singular "Deck") was mediocre overall. Sure "Uria", "The Calculator", "Imperial Custom" and the recent addition in "Anguish Statue" helped out the Deck a little bit, but the game is way too fast for the Deck to be effective in its current state. While Konami is still making cards like these, they have been severely power-creeped. I really like Trap Monsters as a Deck so I wondered how I could make them better. After a bit of thinking, I think I found a good way to rework Continuous Trap Monsters into something moderately effective.Ambush Monsters are basically the Continuous Trap Cards in question just with a new coat of paint and some new rulings. They still need to be Set before you can Summon them and they are still always treated as Continuous Trap Cards. When an Ambush Monster is Summoned you cannot use the Spell and Trap Zone it was in previously, again just like as they are now. The major difference is that Ambush Monsters are monsters before and after they hit the field. These are basically regular monsters you need to be Set first. This means that these cards are actually searchable, recyclable and overall more versatile. You can also Special Summon these cards from the Graveyard, Banished Zone, hand or Deck. If you Special Summon an Ambush monster outside of Setting it, you need to have at least 1 Spell and Trap Card Zone open because the monster will restrict the use of that Zone as if it were summoned normally.
For the sake of example, let's say all available Trap Monsters that would be considered Ambush Monsters have these new rulings. "Uria" and "Imperial Custom" are still applicable since they're still Continuous Trap Cards. You can ROTA a "Krystal Avatar" to your hand, Special Summon a "Dimension Reflector" from your Graveyard with "Choco Magician Girl", Trade-In our example card, and use "Gear Gigant X" (or "Heavy-Armored Train Iron Wolf". your preference) to add one of the many Level 4 EARTH Machine-Type Trap Monsters to your hand. There's also "Shaddoll Core", but that's kind of self-explanatory (#MakeRank9GreatAgain ); and "The Despair Uranus" can Set these directly from your Deck and boost itself up while protecting any floodgates you may be playing.
I understand that this wasn't necessarily a "new" concept, but I still found it fun and interesting. I think there are some mechanics in the game that need a tune-up so that players have more options. I think I'll do something like this next time, updating a mechanic we're familiar with before going back into the extravagant.
Consumption Cube (WATER)
Level: 8
[Aqua/Ambush/Effect]
Lore: Equip this card to 1 face-up Special Summoned monster your opponent controls. The equipped monster loses 700 ATK and DEF during your opponent's Draw Phase. This card cannot be destroyed by card effects while it is equipped to a monster. When the equipped monster's ATK or DEF becomes 0, destroy that monster. When the equipped monster is destroyed by this effect. Special Summon this card. This card's original ATK and DEF is the original ATK and DEF of the destroyed monster. This card cannot be destroyed by battle. This card gains half the ATK and DEF of monsters it destroys by battle. You can only control 1 face-up "Consumption Cube".
ATK: ? DEF: ?
I do not own the artwork (which belongs to its respective owner/s), the game of Yu-Gi-Oh (which is © of Konami and Kazuki Takahashi) or the template I used to make this. I made this using a Series 9 version of Magic Set Editor that I have heavily customized with a little help from Photoshop.

just want to be sure, but even though it's level 8, it doesn't need tributes to set, right?
love concept here, btw

Last day I was thinking, if you use the effect of "Ultimate Offering" which lets you SET a monster from your hand, does that work with ambush monsters?

Thank you. I just love the Trap Monster concept, but I haven't seen anyone rework it. I figured I'd take a stab at it.
