Description How I make my horns is the number 1 question I get asked by far. It's pretty simple, but it's really hard to explain without pictures.

If you use this tutorial, I'd love to see your awesome creations!

Edit: Wow. Okay, I'm just stunned. Thank you so much for all the support. I never thought I'd get a daily deviation in a million years. To come home from a funeral to this... words just can't describe.

Sadly I have no plans on making a tutorial for an entire narwhal or unicorn, but if you are interested in purchasing a narwhal plush, I carry them in my Etsy shop over here!

I should mention there are other uses for these horns besides stuffed animals, they make fun keychains and necklaces too and you can even hook them onto headbands for a costume. Someone even made the body of a worm using this method.

For those looking for tutorials on how to make an entire plush, here is a good basic plush tutorial: [link] (there are 4 parts to it by the same user), Here are some free plushie patterns: [link] , and this contains a bunch of links to different free patterns: [link]

Edit 2: Here's a quick mini tutorial on how I attach a horn to a plush

One thing I've done in the past to add to the effect is to do a small ladder stitch around the spiral, as I found it helps stop the spiral string from accidentally slipping. It does have the effect of making the horn even shorter due to pulling the fabric together more, so you gotta compensate for it if you want to try.

It's also handy if you don't have any thread that's similar/matching to the horn, as it'll hide it too.

Valar-Varda [2012-09-04 17:30:20 +0000 UTC]

This is really great! I will use this in the future for my secret project...
One question, however, does the spiral ever come loose?
I mean, since it's wound around, could the thread get moved and the spiral come undone?
Just wondering, thanks!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BeeZee-Art In reply to Valar-Varda [2012-09-04 20:56:29 +0000 UTC]

It shouldn't if you pull it tight enough. in fact, I have a hard time repositioning the spiral if I make one kind of lopsided, I have to wiggle a needle under it. Although I suppose over time it could, but I haven't seen it on any of my narwhals so far.

That's a really nice tutorial. The pictures are clear and instructions simple to use. I also have a special weakness for narwhals and unicorns and enjoy plushie making, so this may well come in handy.
