Description This is my commission for the lovely =onedeadfish ! Her character, Kaimana, was so fun to manipulate (even his hair ) He has the ability to form a shield around him, which is what the glow + blur shows here and he also has elemental control over water and air (which he uses just for fun) - so that is what the water fish are for!
I really think I have improved a lot in this manip, especially in mane and tail painting, and I have generally just spent a lot longer on details I would have passed over before. I'm really pleased with this

Okay first of i really want to tell you how beautiful this is!
I am going to start with the things you can improve on first then go into the things i LOVE in this piece.

Okay so firsty i notice the bright colour of hot pinks witch is very standing out!, Its is stunning however the background and the horse are two very different. I would try to get a very slight hint of pinky in the background to make it more conected.

The lighting on the horse has been done fairy well, But all i can say is MORE MORE MORE e.deviantart.net/emoticons/b/b… " width="15" height="15" alt="" title=" (Big Grin)"/> I think we could pay around a bit more dramatic, And use the dark pink/purples as a shawdow on the body and hihglights lightpink/white. This can give a more dramatic effect.

The water reflection seems like it was a hard joke as the water fades into the pebbles so i am not going to say anything on that as i think you have done a good job.

Another thing. I think it would have been good if the fishys could have hint of pink/ purple to respong to the birhg t pinks on the horse.

I atcully adore that splash very nice like how its not to fine. However i think a few more water droplets also the hooves at the front have no water on them? i think it would make a lot of difference if they did.

The outlining is much to thick in some places and to strong make sure you are only outlining where you need to which is where the light is shining, (on his back front of the legs. But where there is no shawdow no out lining on his bottom, back legs his belly

I love the thick amne and tail very beautiful however i think a bit more care could be taken on the detail. Notice the highlights and lowlights and really work into them with a 1 px brush! Yes i am not joking also make sure you got a few fly aways.

Let me just say i love this piece! I hope my critque wasnt to harsh... But i really do mean that i adore this piece i am going to try something like this sometime. Its really inspiring The fish are so beautiful there my favriot bit. The splashs on the fish is so wonderfall

thank you so much for the in-depth critique! Looking back on the piece I strongly agree with most of the things you have said. Too-large outlines have always been one of my flaws aha and I am still learning with lighting, so thank you for the hints
It is so nice to hear when a great artist says they love your work - I am so happy, thanks so much

Can i ask how you do your splashes? I adore them!

wow thanks!
I just cut out the splash (the cutting doesn't have to be too neat), position it how I want then just paint around the outline of it with a small round, fairly soft brush. I do more wavy lines at the bottom to make the splash look more natural. Then I just use the same brush and draw random squiggles around the side of it which look like droplets of water coming off. If you lower the transparency of the brush then lightly colour them in (if they are large) it will look better. But that is not necessary unless you have a really large gap aha!
For the mini splashes, I literally just took a bit off the large splash, scaled it down and painted on the extra droplets again.
Hope that helps and if you have any questions, just note me and I might be able to show you on a join.me if you want. sorry I am not that great at explaining!
