Description
Started this ages ago and it came to an abrupt halt, so I dusted it off for another shot.
I really liked the sketch stage of this one. (It's not very clear in this view, but I added it to my Scraps here ) There's a lot of hair which I think is why it stalled early on. I decided it was time to face my demons!
In some ways it's quite similar to the Scarlett piece - the angle of the head is almost the same so I'm using the same colour palette and have also used the same background (albeit flipped).
This was my first serious 'hair piece' (if you'll pardon the pun
) and I really tried hard to get the hair looking as realistic as possible.

To be honest, now that I've slept since working on it, I think it's starting to look a little too photo-realistic.
I know a couple of deviants who don't have anywhere near the attention they deserve because their paintings are so incredibly real looking.
I should be thankful that due to the DD on the PJ painting, I have a built-in audience!

You deserve it as well, for damn sure. It's looking awesome, so don't change anything on it... well, 'cept for finishing it, of course.
Do your thing, worry about your own stuff - you have a very appreciative audience. Maybe you should feature one of those other artists? That way you can do your bit in spreading the attention to them as well?

Awesome. I'm still itching to try this sometime. I actually did a couple photomanips using smudge and painting, so it was a good intro for me... The mouse makes it kinda hard...that Wacom is calling my name! Which one do you have?

For a beginner tablet user, you would probably manage perfectly well with the next size down. In the UK it's 'A5' size (I use that size at work)... it's too early for me to try and calculate the inches version though, sorry...
If you get one, let me know and I'll give you some handy hints.

The lighting on the face is taken from the reference - I generally follow that to the letter.
However, the background in the ref for this pic is very plain so I added my own.
