Description
An illustration featuring Hasu and Smurt !
This work is vaguely inspired by the painting Ophelia by John Everett Millais.
I wanted to paint Smurt and Hasu interract, and it was a long time since I did a swamp .

Ahoy!
So first, let me start with this statement: I really adore this picture. It's extremely, unbelievably adorable. Now, to the deep analysis
Colours: The color palette of this picture really sets this nighttime-lake mood, but in a comfortable, not-creepy-at-all way, and it's something I can only congratulate on. The subtle purples, the light yellows and the bright blue really takes away the potential horror factor of a night scene. The lighting is excellent, making the river the primary light source was a really good choice.
Figures: I can't spot any obvious anatomical mistakes, everything seems to be on spot. But I wonder shouldn't her head be submerged too into the water? I mean she is not just floating, but it seems like if she was holding her head above the water by force.
Textures: It was a brave choice to pick such a textured brush, but it paid off well. It has a pretty soft-pastel vibe to it. I like that there are no specific outlines (only at the hands.. those blue scribbles seems to be a bit odd). Also, there's a bit weird break in the texture, on the right corner of the picture, on the lake. Like a completely straight line that cuts off the texture. (if it makes sense)
Composition: The angle you choose is great, the composition is very well balanced, has a bit of a pyramid structure, and the bright and dark layers well complement each other.
All in all, I really like this artwork (especially the hippo like little creature, and the choice of colors)
Keep up the amazing work!
from with love

Thank you for your comment !
I think I know where thi cuts off texture come from. I used a handmade textured brush in photoshop and I have just load a great picture for my texture. Since I have tested it on small format it did work well. I should probably change my texture so the repeat isn't as obvious.
For her head yeah she force her head above the water. The wate wasn't mean to be deep so I think it is not a problem, but I could make it a little more obvious. I'll think about drawing reference the next time I go to a small river
Have a good day.

Haha, you're right, I'm not really patient enough to draw full pieces, or just tend to mess them up compositions really badly
It's something that I decided to practice more, but never really did.

Hello there~ I’m from ‘s weekly comment project!
First thing first… I have to say that I really like the texture used in this picture. It really makes this picture looks like a traditional artwork from a quick glance~ (Which is very cool). There is also a sense of depth added in this picture with the use of reed grass silhouettes, and that is a really nice touch
Color palette used here is also nice~ Using blue color does create a nice calm and cool atmosphere that is relaxing to look at = v =. Since the middle part of picture is a lot brighter than other parts of the picture, this really helps drawing attention to the character in the middle~
Now is time for nitpicking… My biggest concern with this picture would be the strange blue lines on the character’s hand… I’m not sure if that’s suppose to be some sort of tattoo or not, but it felt kinda like draft sketch that was left there by mistake… (If it’s actually intended to be there a part of character design, then just ignore this = v =” )
Anyhow~ Keep up the good work~

Thank you for your comment ^^,
Indeed the blue line on the character's hand is from the draft sketch, and initially they were seen as a line everywhere on her skin. It can be faintly seen around her chin and ears. I did however cover the most of the other line. So you're probably right, I should have remove it or make it in a dark skin color. I try to remember this sort of thing next time.
May you have a nice day !
