Description
While exploring an abandoned artificial planet with his new command, the U.S.S. Stargazer, Captain Picard encounters his first "First Contact" with a powerful space being identified as the "Ophanim" by the archaeological artifacts found on the artificial planet. The Ophanim appeared without warning, slowly drifting out of a Nebula and allowed itself to be scanned extensively by the Stargazer while it reached out long tendrils of energy to touch the Constellation class itself.

The findings were astonishing. The Creature contains a naturally occurring powerful subspace vacuole, in which it had absorbed an entire universe into themselves, feeding off its naturally radiating entropy energy, without affecting the universe at all and without any evidence from within that it has happened. The universe continues its development normally until the Ophanim regurgitates it back into its dimension. In this case, the scans appear to show that this creature contains a parallel universe. Picard wonders if our universe exists within an Ophanim from time to time. After scanning the Stargazer, it moves off at a speed nearly warp 10 and vanished into the depths of space.
