that looks soooo similar to my grandpa's '85 Panasonic front loading.
I also have a Mistubishi one made in dec.1985

Hello again.
Sorry to keep bugging you like this. Just wanted to tell you, I found a donor VCR and got a tire from it that worked in the Beta. So, thanks so much for all the help.

Just got back from Ace and installed the new belt. I found out that if I hit play, then pause, everything works, but when I have it play again, it stops in a couple of seconds.
(Sorry to bug you with all of these questions, but your the only one who knows anything about it, and I really want to get it working.)

OK, the place didn't do Beta, so I opened it myself. I found a belt that goes from the right "turner knob" to the front of the machine and into the timer. This one seems to be the worst one, stretch wise. Is this the idler belt?

The idler is a tire, viewable from the top of the unit under the carriage. They are extremely hard to replace. Ace has belts? If it's glossy like an o-ring, it's not going to work correctly, it'll slip.
As for pausing and unpausing, that might now be a mode switch, somethings sticking.
To be honest, this might be more trouble than it's worth, unless you really want it working.

I don't NEED it to work, but my other one died in my recent move. I was just hoping it would be an easy fix. I'll just keep an eye out for another one, and keep this for parts. Thanks for the help, I really appreciate it.

You wouldn't happen to know much about Betamax, would you?

Yes, quite a bit at the engineering level.

I recently found a Sony SLO-323 player. My knowledge on them is very low. The player says B-1. I have Batman on a cassette that says Beta. When I put the cassette in, it plays for about 10 seconds, and stops. I don't know if it a problem with the player, or if I'm doing something wrong. I tried Googling it to find a solution, but I couldn't find anything. Any help would be greatly appreciated.

It sounds like a belt has come loose.

I tried it again, and it's still not working. Also, it doesn't reel the tape back into the cassette, about 4 inches gets left out. As for the belt, do you have any guess on which one it is? I see a couple, but they seem fine.
(Would it help if I posted some pics of it.)

The belt in this case would be the idler belt or the capstan belt. You say it won't pickup the slack, that can be the idler most likely. If the idler is rubber, it's without a doubt lost it's grip. In any case, it really needs servicing. New parts all around. There's a website that sells a lot of parts, but they are mainly VHS.

I know it needs serviced, by someone who knows what they're doing. Turns out Best Buy DOESN'T know everything; the look on the guy's face was priceless. I guess I'll have to mess around with it, and see what I can do. Thanks for the help.

Yea, um, you need a specialized service center, not a modern service center by guys who aren't really certified.

Yea, I know. I think I found a place that might be able to do it. Still, watching him try to fit a VHS into it was pretty funny.

This VCR has been in the family for years. My father bought it far before I was even born, and he bought it new. It's remote is a simple Play/Pause switch with a long wire attached.
It's never been serviced once. They really don't make them like they used to.
