which one would you take? model one or model two?

Both are the same really, but model 2 is more reliable. Β Model 1 has a more compatible BIOS though.

epic pic! it's almost scary how far ahead SEGA was with gaming in terms of the past! it's also, in a good way, scary how much farther ahead they'd be if they didn't stop making consoles. Miss my genesis...well all i really played was the Sonic series but i always wanted the CD addon for it but i remember, while being 6 years old, it being expensive or somethin. Good days for gaming though.

Sorry to bombard you with questions but, my model 1 sega cd doesn't read the disc. It will spin the disc for a moment then go back as if no disc were inserted. You wouldn't happen to know what the problem would be?

Clean the laser..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

someotherguy2 In reply to blackevilweredragon [2010-09-15 13:15:39 +0000 UTC]

I did but still nothing.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-09-15 13:43:43 +0000 UTC]

Does it actually say No Disc on screen? Press Start? I need to know what it says on-screen..

The laser is likely dead, but you may need to get an aerosol can and shoot some air under the lens. Dust and hair can get under there and cause it not to work also..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

someotherguy2 In reply to blackevilweredragon [2010-09-15 17:15:50 +0000 UTC]

The system will turn on fine and will say press reset to open tray. I will put a cd in then press start. The system will spin the disc for a moment and stop. The cd system acts as if I had just opened and closed it without putting in a disc. It doesn't say "No Disc" though it doesn't even say checking disc.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-09-15 17:58:20 +0000 UTC]

Then either the laser is dead or dust is under the lens assembly.

And no I can't walk you through, I only sprayed air in it, not remove the assembly.. And you can still buy replacements but once again I can't walk you through, I've never done it before.

I recently acquired a model one Sega CD minus any cords. You wouldn't happen to know which cords are compatible with the model 1 Sega CD?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-08-30 07:30:25 +0000 UTC]

All you need is the power cable, and a model 1 Genesis power cord will work..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

someotherguy2 In reply to blackevilweredragon [2010-08-30 12:40:13 +0000 UTC]

Thanks! I wouldn't want to ruin my cd by using the wrong power cord.

someotherguy2 [2010-08-22 21:04:30 +0000 UTC]

Did you have to insert prongs into your genesis?

Also you wouldn't happen to know where to buy 32x cables?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-08-22 21:15:58 +0000 UTC]

For the 32X? Nah, didn't bother, works fine.

No, I don't know where to get the cables, mine just came with it.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

someotherguy2 In reply to blackevilweredragon [2010-08-22 21:29:42 +0000 UTC]

Oh well, what do the prongs do? My 32x came with everything but the AV cord and the model 1 adapter.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-08-22 21:46:53 +0000 UTC]

The prongs are just to satisfy the FCC. It does help with RF shielding, but it honestly doesn't matter, it works fine without it.

You can try hunting eBay for it. Makes sure the AV cable is for a 32X/Gen2/CDX. They all use the same AV cable.. Since you have a model 1, you'll want a mono AV cable. (You can go to radioshack though and get a headphone TRS to RCA adapter, and plug the headphone jack from your Genesis to the TV, that headphone jack will contain ALL sounds..)

eBay may also have the Model 1 adapter, but you will still need the passthrough cable to connect to that adapter.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

someotherguy2 In reply to blackevilweredragon [2010-08-22 23:18:39 +0000 UTC]

Actually I did check ebay and they were trying to sell the cables for around 25 bucks each! My genesis and 32X combined didn't cost that much!

Thanks for the info though.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-08-23 22:54:31 +0000 UTC]

Sadly that price seems about right.. These cables are rare.

Now, I can make them, but it costs some money for the parts.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

someotherguy2 In reply to blackevilweredragon [2010-08-24 02:33:57 +0000 UTC]

Odd that the cables are rare but the console easy to come by. I might be interested in the ones you make depending on the quality.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-08-24 16:36:51 +0000 UTC]

I only make the upmost quality on things and cables.. But I don't really make things for other people, because then I have to find the parts to make them..

How much would it cost to build 32X Din Cable?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-09-06 03:04:27 +0000 UTC]

Which one? The MD1 adapter, or the passthrough AV cable? (Where if you have a model 1 genesis, you'll need the adapter and the passthrough.)

I don't make them and don't want to make them..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 2

someotherguy2 In reply to blackevilweredragon [2010-09-08 03:07:02 +0000 UTC]

You wouldn't happen to have some instructions on how to build one?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-09-08 20:56:05 +0000 UTC]

No, it would take looking at pinouts, and probing points..

There's one for sale..

someotherguy2 In reply to blackevilweredragon [2010-09-08 21:03:18 +0000 UTC]

Thanks anyways. I'm a little bummed though because my 32x was only $18.00. But it's worth it to play doom.

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

blackevilweredragon In reply to someotherguy2 [2010-09-08 22:56:14 +0000 UTC]

If your a Doomer, you may be disappointed at how crappy the 32X version is.. I have it, and it's absolutely terrible. The music sounds bad, the framerate is low, and it's not even fullscreen..

The 32X was definitely capable, but they rushed the port..

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

someotherguy2 In reply to blackevilweredragon [2010-09-09 03:27:48 +0000 UTC]

Actually I've always been more of a fan of Wolfenstein but Doom is still good. The 32x version isn't horrible, although it isn't as good as the Jaguar version, it is playable despite the music sounding like wet farts and zippers.

the 32x reminds me of a tumor or something lol. and wasnt the sega cd inserted to the side of the gensis? or did they make a new model??

This is the original Sega CD. The second model was on the side. The third model was a portable CD player with SCD and Genesis capabilities.

Bah, DA screws up the link.

Go to youtube, type in "Sega 32X", and load the "32X Tech demo". Very amazing indeed, too bad programmers lacked motivation to actually do this.

Yup! Late release and only small amount of good titles was a very bad decision from SEGA.
