Description [UPDATE: You need to Download the tutorial in order to view it. Previously DA allowed thumbnails for picture items. That changed in later years.)

Because the title bar only allows so many characters...

First off. This is my first tutorial ever.
2nd - I didn't realize until I was close to finishing the tutorial, that Silver's other quill just looks too out of place.
But for the sake of the tutorial itself... I didn't change that. That change will be made in Part 2.

It's damn wordy. I advise you read it through first before putting it to use. I tried to make it as easy to understand as possible. So those that are super-advanced in Photoshop CS or higher...don't bug me.

For those that do use this tutorial at all or find it useful, please by all means fave it.

If you have any recommendations on how future tutorials can be set up, please give me the advise. I need all the help I can get.

My fingers are almost frozen...and I'm going to bed.

See~? That's just in one year! Imagine how much better you'll be in the time to come if you keep practicing. You might surprise yourself~

All in all though- it's ok if you don't like every picture that you do. Use that to give you a drive to be better in the future!

Can this work for photoshop elements?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BlazeTBW In reply to Arrol-S [2010-01-09 02:36:47 +0000 UTC]

It can- but I don't think Elements has a pentool- So you could try using the polygonal lasso tool- and smooth that out. (and fix it later with brush and eraser)

Iyour tutorial is great ^^ I have photoshop CS4 and it helps great, one question though, your line is a nice smooth like but mine is like a brush and it fuzzy and doesn't look really nice, how do I get mine to look like yours?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BlazeTBW In reply to Sunflowercandy [2009-10-16 15:13:18 +0000 UTC]

Chances are it's either
- the brush or layer it's on
- size/resolution of the image itself
- you're zoomed in to where it looks fuzzy (like anything above 100% - I've seen that CS4 can do a clean preview when below 100%)
- or somethin' else that I'm not sure of...

the pen tool isn't available in photoshop CS4, is it?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BlazeTBW In reply to Cruchiecat [2009-08-21 06:50:22 +0000 UTC]

It should be- it was available in every version before CS4

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cruchiecat In reply to BlazeTBW [2009-08-21 06:53:01 +0000 UTC]

It's not there. In your tutorial it was next to the shapes button, now it's just vanished.

BlazeTBW In reply to Cruchiecat [2009-08-21 07:33:35 +0000 UTC]

Good question- I haven't used CS4 yet- chances are they moved it or gave it another name-

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Cruchiecat In reply to BlazeTBW [2009-08-21 07:37:16 +0000 UTC]

Maybe moved it... I can't find it anywhere, not even in the help section (unless it's called a graphic pen, but it won't tell me where to find it.)

then they must be something wrong what photoshop.

Do this

Go to Edit> Keyboard Shortcuts
Then Set to the drop down 'Set' it should be On Photoshop Defaults unless you changed something of a perfectly good reason, If you have changed something it will change to 'Untitled-1(Modified)', If it does say that then just change it to Photoshop defaults.

If you want to find to pen tool, Look at where the Text tool and look one icon up. Click and hold the Icon and when a pop out side bar appears click the first one.

good tutorial none the less, but you never showed the undersketch of the sketch. D8>

BlazeTBW In reply to baracai [2009-07-16 06:39:26 +0000 UTC]

o.o Undersketch? You mean all the scribbly stuff before the sketch is refined? I didn't see that as important considering it's for inking+coloring (part2) the style and not drawing/sketching

GaiaX2 In reply to ??? [2009-05-17 03:30:14 +0000 UTC]

Well, I have CS2, which is the problem, this works with CS1. Not cool, you should try one for CS2, because some of us may have the program, and it works a little diffrent.. because when I open a sketch, it isin't as easy like the tutorial, not all the functions open, and there aren't enough things for my tools.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BlazeTBW In reply to GaiaX2 [2009-05-17 04:19:49 +0000 UTC]

Everything from Photoshop 7 to the current CS version (version 4) should be able to use this tutorial. When I made the tutorial I was using CS2 at the time (which I don't have any more at the moment, but that's another story- but I did use it because the logo can be recognized at the top of the tools in the beginning).

I've seen and used the interfaces of Photoshop 7 - CS4 (having to work with them at school) and all of the tools used here are available in those. And the interface hasn't really changed. Some stuff may go under slightly different wording but the tools are the same.

For whatever reason that you may or may not have all of your tools is beyond me to be honest. Perhaps re-downloading the program to make sure you get all your tools back?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

GaiaX2 In reply to BlazeTBW [2009-05-17 21:23:19 +0000 UTC]

Or I think I may need a diffrent one, to be honest. The Curving thing for the pen is not available, which is odd indeed. I may download another version of CS, going 3.

I might belive it's the online packaging. O-O

BlazeTBW In reply to GaiaX2 [2009-05-17 21:36:25 +0000 UTC]

Couldn't tell ya to be honest- I just know I made this in CS2 is all I can tell you. Anyway- g'luck in findin' out what'sup.

GaiaX2 In reply to BlazeTBW [2009-05-17 21:51:48 +0000 UTC]

Meh, I would try a diffrent program then.. maybe upgrade.
