Description Starcraft 2: Protoss Pass 3
Modeled by Phill Gonzales, Robb Shoberg, Trevor Jacobs, and Ted Park!

This is a screenshot from sometime in 2009 I assume. Many pieces of Protoss artwork have changed and significant visual unification has occurred to make the structures look more similar. Remarkably the Protoss cannons are still the vintage telescoping versions.

I really like the style here, though. It's so sharp and bold. Everything really sticks out, unlike how it is now.

Don't get me wrong, the models/shaders in the current build still look absolutely amazing, but I think this looks better.

Remap on Pylons would've been so cool.

These Pylons don't satisfy?

I guess the current Pylon is pretty nice, but everything having more, bolder, Team Color would make SC2 so much easier to watch for people that don't know the game.

As well, I liked how these looked quite a lot!

OH! I understand. The team color ones were the dev team's choice until the lore guys called to attention how incorrect it was to have different crystal colors when Protoss are traditionally blue.

I think blue crystals laced with team colour veins would've worked.

It was working but we felt the lore aspect was more important.

Over the years since they lost Aiur, maybe the protoss learned to make "synthetic" Khaldarian Crystals...thus explaining the extended team colors and colored pylons

I liked the idea of team colored crystals, why this was removed?

The team colored crystals seemed too far removed form the classic Protoss blue.

i've noticed and am glad to see evidenced here that the buildings were much crisper and polished than they are now. honestly i forgot how good they used to look! what prompted a change?

The buildings in this screenshot are hardly much different from what is in the game now. What you're noticing is the lighting, since this screenshot is lit with a regular white-hot light. In the multiplayer maps there are all sorts of crazy (blue, green, red) light setups and foggy atmospheres that wash out the details you're noticing.
