“Is this safe?” Carly looked at her huge, slumbering niece, wondering if she was a calm sleeper. One roll-over or a swipe of her arm could be disastrous for her tiny bedmates.

Lauren shrugged. “I think so. I do this with her sometimes when she’s sad or lonely. She instinctively knows we’re here. We’ll be okay, sis.”

“If you say so.” Carly took another glance at her niece’s sleeping face, listening to her measured, blast furnace respiration. Carly lay back on the pillow. The situation was pretty freaky but also sort of cool.

Lauren squeezed her arm and lay down beside her. “Sorry about hijacking you like this, sis. You still mad at me?”

“Yep.”

Lauren chuckled, snuggling into the pillow and spooning up against her sister. “You love this, and you know it.”

“You know what, sis?” Carly smiled into the giant pillow “I think I do.”
