A lot of Avatar fans have a rather intense dislike of Maiko...in fact, I don't think I've seen another couple take so much heat! So, using my patented Booter Logic, I decided to delve into the reasons WHY(constant face sucking aside). However, my logic must have had an off day, judging from the grade it got. :/But ya gotta admit, guys who act like Mai DO get a love of love. Which is maybe why MAO is a good idea...[link]
Now, before you jump down my throat with Reasons Why Booter Is Wrong And Ignorant For Making This, let me just nip that in the bud. I am not promoting ANY sort of shipping, and this thing is a SPOOF. So if you're actually looking for a well-researched and thought out debate starter, look somewhere else.

That's actually makes a lot of sense. Personally, I like Maiko. Could never understand shippers who push couples who have little to no proof, and overwhelming proof against, and hate the proven pairings.

I don't really care for Snape. And who's Sohma?
While sarcastic wit can be nice there does need to be a balance. A warmth or decidedly approachable and engaging alternative. Snape is engaging in contrast to Harry who's often stumbling and clueless in the four books I've read or overly focused on tearing down others. Even amongst her fans Mai's depth is spoke of in how she ISN'T engaging and depending on how dark the take CAN'T.
Also I tend to be VERY hard on Zuko and am only happy with him if he's truly suffering for his own asshattedness. I tend to be too unsympathetic.
My Mai Hate was mainly motivated by her hostage negotiation ettiquiette.

I think it's less to do with yaoi and more to do with who fangirls identify with (and thus be their self-insert). Everyone wants to be the cute and strong waterbender, but the quiet, snarky girl with no powers? Hiiissssssssss!

I think I've commented on this picture before, but I want to add more. While you do bring up good points about Mai's gender, I also think people hate her for her character. She's very unsympathetic because she's so boring. She has no depth or background. She mentioned her past once but that was only in passing. She doesn't have much character development either. I also think maybe if she was on Aang's side she'd get more love.
