Description
EDIT 21/12 - 23 : It's been decanonized for a while but the latin name of all my species are not canon anymore! (because they're wildly inaccurate, duh lol)
Also, the "Celesté" on the image is a misspelling! It's Celeste. Sorry about the confusion!
---------------------------------
Species/Binomial name - Sanctum Origo
Common name - Angels/Celestials
Kin - Divinity
Recorded amount - 2.500.000~ total, 300.000 stationed in Celeste
Age (of discovery) - N/A
Homeworld - Celeste
- STATUS -
Quite rare as their numbers are limited. They can only exhaust so much spare light to create new and fresh angels at a time, therefore they recycle the light of dying angels into newborns, keeping their numbers steady. They only create new angels from their spare light storage if the demand is needed.
Average life-span - Variable depending on rank
Average height - Variable depending on rank
Habitat
Prefer sunny, calm places with minimal winds and medial temperatures, equal to that of Celeste.
Hostility
Appears to be very calm, wise and docile with little to no intention of harm. It’s in their nature to be helpful and welcoming to lesser beings and will very rarely turn defensive unless directly threatened. But make no mistake: Angels are known to have very significant and strong abilities due to their strong connection to Limbo and direct link to Vida.
Diet
Omnivores, but doesn’t eat meat or animal products frequently. They treasure and respect all life and only eat animal meat during high celebrations and feasts and will always make sure to treat the animal with the highest respect before harvest. Animal products are used in celebrations and in gifts as a sign of respect and appreciation for another person. They make sure not a single piece of the animal is gone to waste and will ensure the animal’s soul lives on.
Reproduction
Angels reproduce asexually as they are beings created out of Limbo and pure light. Similar to that of a phoenix, when an angel dies its essence is used to birth a new angel. Low-ranking/common angels are reborn as babies and taken in by a volunteering elder angel. Higher ranking angels are reborn as toddlers or young children, and seraphims are reborn at around the age of a 13 year old child.
Because of their chosen human form they are equipped with the necessary parts for reproduction, however intercourse is not something they tend to focus on. It is neither looked down upon nor seen as something desirable amongst angels, however sexual or romantic relations between angels and common folk are forbidden as angels are on a different elevated plane of existence compared to commoners. Unlike common folk, angels do not have duplicates of themselves in each universe and are tasked with overseeing the overworld and protecting the people and their patterns meaning if an angel and a human fell in love, that human would break their pattern and could cause a massive chain reaction of breaches on a catastrophic scale, something that directly violates the angels’ core purpose of existence.
Language
Angels speak many languages and have a large library containing all documented languages they have come across during their existence. However their most common language currently is Terran, aka english, something that took hold when they chose humans as their chosen physical form. Before that they used to speak an unknown language theorised to either be the ancient language of Primoric or an alternate version/dialect of Primoric. The old documentation of the angels before they took on a human form is spotty at best meaning tracking their linguistic communication is challenging.
Overview
The Angels, otherwise known as Celestials, are a race of divine humanoids that are far from your average species. They look like regular humans though with either white or blonde hair, variously shaped halos, white wings attached on the back of their waist and gold, silver or blue eyes depending on rank. They reside in a pocket dimension named Celeste rarely coming to visit the Overworld unless tasked to do so, watching over us commoners as our protectors. Angels exist on a plane above our overworld beyond the bounds of the Primoverse’s patterns, meaning they do not possess doppelgangers in all other universes. This is because they’re tasked with overseeing us and our progress ensuring that we do not break our patterns and that we stay in check. If they sense someone’s pattern is about to break or they’re about to do something that will lead them down a rogue path of no recovery, a guardian angel will be sent to help “nudge” that person back in place. Either they will use their powers to manipulate circumstances around the person or appear as a person that briefly meets the individual of interest and helps them with their issue.
Despite being described as humanoids, angels technically do not have physical forms. While they choose to present as humans their true forms are significantly more incomprehensible. It is unknown what these forms truly look like as we common folk cannot see them. It appears that only people with a high status or strong connection to Limbo are able to see their true forms. Artistic renditions and witness descriptions have attempted to describe their form but many describe the feeling of running into the end of your imagination, never being able to fully describe it because they had trouble even comprehending what they even saw let alone being able to describe it to someone else. A previous Core has given a glimpse into their appearance:
“they appear as a large amalgamation of hundreds of eyes looking toward every direction, multiple pairs of wings and rings of gold surrounding them, a weak glow emitting from their core. Moving with little to no sound, all but a low monotone hum that is just barely audible, but sends a chill down your spine and a lasting echo in your bones nonetheless.”
Why they took on the form of humans varies from story to story but the consensus is that when Vida helped bring them to life they wanted to take on the form of the “perfect lifeform”. Humans were considered to be the perfect lifeform as plenty of species are variations of their bipedal form, proving it to be an effective and adaptable shape. When a new angel is born they pick a random look of a physically attractive and friendly-looking human shape to grow into, meaning skintones, facial features, bodytype, hair texture, etc. are generally randomized and you will see a large variety of angel appearances. The only constant is their hair color being a variation of blonde, platinum or white.
Angels tend to struggle with time management and schedules outside of Celeste. Angels live in the now without worrying about the past or future, not worrying over the day after tomorrow, just taking every moment as it comes. When you’re in Celeste you tend to get lost in time that way especially if you're used to following the man-made concept of time.
Time dilation is a very real thing when inside Celeste as one week in Celeste only equals about 36 hours or 1.5 days in the overworld (of course, depending on where you are in the universe and what dimension you are in.) Bringing in digital clocks inside Celeste will make the clock stop ticking and only restart itself again once you’re back out into the overworld. So when angels enter into the overworld, which they rarely do, it’s more difficult for them to accomodate to such a time-dependent world compared to Celeste’s “take one moment at a time” mindset.
With the help of the seraphims Celeste is an excellent place for those of high power to heal from injuries or illnesses. An important figure, like an emperor or a king, can come to Celeste and stay there to be taken care of by the Seraphims. The seraphims have the most remarkable healing capabilities in the primoverse only being bested by Vida herself.
This means they can cure essentially any injury or illness in these high power figures without them having to be gone from their important position for too long. In Celeste they can stay and rest up for many weeks, while in the overworld, only a couple days have passed by during their absence.
Ifraezela was the first ever Seraphim to have been brought to life by Vida, the creator of all Celestials. She helped create her two sisters and built Celeste from the ground up. She's the one behind everything that the angels believe in, the creator of their whole structure as a race, with the painting in the Hall of Ifraezela being the generations after her telling the story of what her ethics have done to impact the angel kind throughout the years.
She’s looked up to by all angels as their first deity, often praying and doing things for her, thankful that she’s given them their very own land they now stand on. In the center of Celeste’s town square is a fountain where in the middle stands a large marble statue of Ifraezela.
Ifraezela is most often characterized as very beautiful and radiant, described as unnaturally tall with long curly white hair. Her most recognizable trait is her left eye which has been replaced by a gold sphere. Ifraezela lost her left eye in a battle between her and Astaroth, the duke of all Demons and a sworn enemy of the Celestials. Instead of having it replaced with a prosthetic she had a gold sphere inserted in its place as a token of her resilience and purity, not allowing this injury to taint her with Astaroth’s evil, as the angels believe gold to be repellant of demons.
Hierarchies (aka "Choirs")
Seraphims - The Seraphims are Vida's own personal guides and her first creations and they are the founders of the Angels. They are at the top of the hierarchy and oversee everything. They live the longest out of the angelkin and are very powerful healers, only being bested by Vida herself. They begin with one large halo going around their forehead instead of above their head and as they age they gain two pairs more until it is their time to be reborn, and six wings. They are the only angels possessing a golden eye color.
There are three seraphim sisters alive at all times, all female. When it’s time for the eldest sister to pass on, her light will be recycled to give life to a new seraphim sister who will take the place of the youngest, and the middle sister will then become the oldest.
Cherubims - Cherubims are the soldiers/guardians who guard the borders of Celeste (The homeworld of the angels) and are the main protectors of the Seraphims. They're meant to protect their realm from any unpure evil. They normally have one large pair of wings and one smaller pair underneath with a regular halo and silver eyes. There are 7 cherubims present in Celeste at all times.
Dominions - The "captains" of the lesser angels who receive orders from the Seraphims and pass them on to the guardians. They're meant to guide larger groups and watch over the heads of governments and other high powers to make sure they do their job right. Dominions have slightly larger wings and regular halos with bronze-colored eyes.
Virtues - Virtues are the commanders and creators of all things inanimate and animated. They come in various shapes and sizes and control various things around a specific planet. Some control the weather, some control the growth of nature, some control the seasons and some control the water to even out growth over all the land. Virtues have regular sized wings and their halos come in various shapes and sizes and have blue eyes.
Common Angels - Angels are the most common class who generally reside in Celeste but can become assigned to a specific person or household to watch over in the overworld if need be. They guard the person/people and watch over them, making sure they are all alive and well and no accidents will come upon them, ensuring that if there is a person at risk of breaking their pattern, they will help nudge them back in place. They have regular wings and their halos come in various shapes and sizes, with variations of blue tinted eyes.
Fallen angels/Nephilims - Fallen angels are the rejected angels that have fallen down to earth and are not allowed back into Celeste, who have wronged the celestial court and code. If they interact wrongly with an overworld being, such as falling in love with one or overstaying their welcome because of attachments, that angel will be deemed corrupted and will be cast out of Celeste. When you are cast out your wings will be clipped and the Sea of Clouds covering the floor of Celeste’s pocket dimension will open a hole and drop you in.
You will land on the surface of a seemingly endless reflective ocean, giving you two options: to remain in Celeste forever branded as a nephilim working the rest of your days out in shameful servitude and having the memories of the people you’ve bonded with erased so they can live happily without you, OR you will join the overworld and the people you bonded with as a weakened mortal, never to return to Celeste and forever marked as a reprobate. If you are unlucky and the people you bonded with have moved on and re-kindled their pattern, they will not be able to see you. People with intact patterns cannot see fallen angels, only people who have broken their patterns (aka Rogues) or people with a status that allows immunity to the effects of patterns are able to physically see you.
Many nephilims choose to join the mortal world and take that risk, and many of those unlucky nephilims will forever walk their remaining days alone and invisible.
The longer you stay a fallen angel, your wings and hair will begin to shift color from white to black turning more rugged with time, your halo will lose its glow and become cracked and scarred, and your eyes will turn a grey-ish tint, symbolising your lost connection to your celestial brethren.
