Description
EDIT 25/7 - 19 : Added a new section on oxygen and how they depend on it, explaining more in detail why they are able to survive being choked.
EDIT 3/9 - 19 : Added a new category called "Languages", discussing their native tounge.
EDIT 24/6 - 20 : Finally updated the sheet fully! It's practically the same as the old one, but with a better resolution, more readable text, and slightly updated art. Plus a visual chart of the 5 phases of a carnal. Plus, added some new information in the Overview.
EDIT 21/12 - 23 : It's been decanonized for a while but the latin name of all my species are not canon anymore! (because they're wildly inaccurate, duh lol)
------------------------------------------------------------------
Common name - Carnal
Kin - Demon
Recorded amount - 3-6.5 million~ per planet*
Age (of discovery) - Around 1 Million Gyres old. (4 mil. Years)
Homeplanet - Muriedraq
[It is unknown whether or not Muriedraq is still an active planet, but due to the vertex of all of Muriedraq’s versions being located in a hostile world, and no activity has been logged for many Gyres, it is widely accepted as no longer being inhabitable.]
[Muriedraq's biomes were very rich with plant-life, mainly montane forests and taiga.]
- STATUS -
Scarce, not considered rare yet not very common. Around 6.5 million~ are registered per planet*. Fairly hard to find, blend in easily with their environment.
*this estimated number is calculated using Mean Values, however it is difficult to determine its accuracy due to the very inconsistent amounts of carnals in each universe and planets. Some universes have billions, while others barely hit 1000. Therefor the Mean Value may be inaccurate as the number fluctuates so heavily from planet to planet
Average life-span - Around 100 years, or 25 Gyres. Counted as an adult once they hit 30 years (7,5 GR's) of age.
Average height - 6’3’’.
Habitat
Prefers it moderate, with medium temperatures. Likes the air humid, similar to that right after rainfall. It has been observed that carnals more often than not seek human company to live together with, in hopes of being able to increase their chances of finding a mate, but also them being very pack-oriented. Eventhough they like it moderately warm, general hot or cold climates are not a problem.
Hostility
By default very neutral (neither friendly or agressive), but can become very aggressive if provoked, and is easily agitated. Very emotionally driven since they are a hostile species by nature, and while in their demonic form they will not hesitate to slaughter you.
Diet
Omnivores when human, carnivores when as a demon. Humans and other humanoids are also on the menu in their final form.
Reproduction
Has two seasons in one year; one during the month of March and one over the 3-month period of August through October.
They're semi-monogamous, meaning they are more likely to have more than one partner throughout their life, however they will remain loyal to their partners once they do match with them. They’re fairly picky with mates too, so it's not often they go beyond two or three mates. They often use their singing voice to allure their mate.
Normal maternity for a baby is around 8 months. Twins are fairly common.
Language
It is unknown whether they had a native language tied to their species, originally suspected to have been Primoric when they first rose into existence, though this remains unconfirmed as new information has arisen.
It is suspected that all demonkin races, before they started to spread, spoke one collective language together that later died out. This was theorized after studying their language patterns where the development, acquisition and maintenance of their speech showed that their root pronunciation and speech did not match the patterns of the stem-language Primoric, which all language is based after. Though what this language is/was remains unknown.
Nowadays their languages are individual, where they speak the language that is assigned to the region they currently live in.
Overview
A Carnal is a humanoid species with the physical appearance of a normal person on the outside, but a demon on the inside.
A carnal shares their body with a Spirit, which is classified as the Demon. The two minds are stuck in one body sharing the control over it.
One mind is the human mind which is the dominant mind of the two. Then they have the demon which is a second consciousness that's stuck inside their body. The demon inside is made up of pure energy (Limbo) and technically has no solo physical form unless they choose to transform.
Despite its name, the demon isn't inherently evil. This Demon is sentient but neutral and cannot do any harm if subdued and controlled by the stronger mind, a.k.a the Human mind. The human has been observed to often talk to themselves, when in reality they are having a conversation with their demon. The only time the demon is in control is during the night when the human is asleep. The majority of the time the demon will be unable to do anything, but in some cases the spirit can take control of the body and make it move around, commonly seen as sleepwalking.
Mostly the demon is calm and classed as “asleep” if the human is in control but if the human is becoming increasingly agitated, frustrated, put under high amounts of pressure or stress, bursts out in rage or forced into it, they will transform into a gigantic beast of a specific color, lose all control of their common sense, and proceed to destroy everything and everyone in their path. For your own safety, it is best to avoid pissing them off as much as you can, as it can cause immense amounts of backlash on your surroundings and physical health.
Subduing a carnal in this state is near impossible unless you manage to kill it. If you feel the need to kill a berserk carnal, slashing their neck with some type of sharp object will be the most effective, as their neck is their most vulnerable part on their body. This also applies in their regular human form.
A carnal can be tamed. It’s much easier post-Unity* as they are much calmer, but if you’re lucky it can work before Unity as well. If both the human and demon are allowed to spend a lot of time with friends and family or other people they trust, the demon will begin acting much more calm around them, and begin seeing them as family. So even when they are in phase 5, they won’t attack them, but instead protect them.
To know if they trust you, keep full eye contact with them. You will only see their sclera as pure white and no iris at first. Lean out your hand and let them lean their chin onto it while still remaining eye contact. If the eye is still only white, it means they do not fully trust you. But if you begin to see their human iris with the human’s eye color through the white of their sclera, it means they can trust you enough to let down their guard fully, quite literally, "seeing you" as their family.

These demonic beasts are based off of both canine and feline animals.
It's more common for females to be feline and males to be canine, but both could be both in some rarer cases. However, if a male has a Feline demon/if a female has a Canine demon, there's a high chance of them being scolded by their pack, and feeling left out. According to the Carnal nature there's nothing wrong with the carnal itself if they have this rather rare trait, but the other "normal" carnals don't see it as such.
Feline carnals, if comfortable around you, will often bring you gifts. They want to bring them to you as a thank you for taking care of them and loving them, so they often tend to buy rings, necklaces, stuffed animals, food items, flowers or anything of the sort. However it is not recommended to encourage the behavior if the demon is in control, as you may or may not end up with a dead deer carcass on your doorstep.
Their demon forms when transformed heavily depends on heaps of oxygen to sustain their form. Essentially, they only have three organs in this form; A stomach, lungs, and a heart. Their lungs are massive as they heavily depend on the oxygen to continuously provide their body with energy since their plasma can only remain visible and sustainable when saturated with air. The air is also necessary in order for their stomachs to break down anything that they’ve eaten at a much quicker rate than regular stomach acid. The heart helps pump out the energy of Limbo to their limbs so that they can move around, which again, also requires oxygen in order to continue beating.
Their human forms however can remain without oxygen for much longer than the average human. They also depend on oxygen, but a carnals physical form have much larger lungs that can hold a larger volume of oxygen than a regular human. This helps them gain better stamina, hold their breath for longer periods of time, and have a much greater chance at surviving a chokehold.
As mentioned before, carnals have an extremely sensitive neck. If they are in their human form and you grab their neck and give it a hard twist, the carnal will begin transforming outside of their own control. Be cautious, however, as doing this will mean the carnal loses all control over their emotions and anger very quickly, so it’s important you know a way out before attempting this. Doing this is NOT recommended.
All carnals have a colored strand of fur in their hair. This strand is the same color as their demon form. All known colors can be shown in a Carnals' looks, and sometimes even a slight mixture of two colors with one being the primary and the other being seen in highlights or roots.
However, Greyscale colors are extremely rare. Any grey color between White and Black (including the latter two) is almost impossible to come across. The cause of this is unknown, and this trait has really only been spotted among Alphas or mutants.
On the topic of hair, carnals are known to have very thick and prominent heads of hair in the regular form, this is due to having a form of Pili Multigemini. An average carnal has about 6-9 hairs per hair follicle, whereas a normal human head has 2-3 hairs per hair follicle.
The demon can be seen in their shadow and can therefore be easier to read and see who is in control.
If you shine a light at them and cast their shadow on the wall, the shadow could come alive if the demon is awake. This shadow moves like a regular person, but not after the movements of the human counterpart. They can affect small objects, but not by much.
The two minds can indeed switch places, so if the demon is in control of the body, the human is instead put in the place of the shadow, much like how they trade places when the human is asleep.
Carnals tend to be very territorial. If someone tries to approach their partner they could be very protective, growl, and even try to attack. Even when a stranger approaches where they live such as their house they become very aggressive and protective of both their friends and family. Due to learning how to live in a human society they know not to let their feral instincts take over and begin growling, biting or hissing at the stranger, but with enough provocation a reaction like so may occur.
Carnals have a tendency to sleep a lot, so do not worry if your fellow carnal stays in bed for longer periods of time. It's normal for them, as they have two minds to rest instead of one. Keeping themselves in check takes a lot of energy, so it's best not to wake them up.
However, if a carnal has the chance to sleep for around 15-18 hours, they can stay awake for another 30 hour period without any problem.
Their wrists appear to be a rather sexual weak spot. If you press on their wrists, their claws will unintentionally fold out. However when experimenting with the nerve, rubbing it or kissing it will more often than not arouse the carnal. Along this, if you have a pretty singing voice, being able to subdue and/or allure a carnal will become much easier, as they are highly attracted to singing voices.
They do have their own version of catnip, which is a plant called Sharnian snow clovers (trifolium tescarctica). The leaves are common and have the appearance of clovers, who are snow white with pointy leaves. The flowers are scarce to come across since they do grow rather rarely in the wild, but they have the same fluffy crown as cottongrass with black-ish tips on the top of the cotton-like fibers. They originate from a country on the carnals' homeplanet Muriedraq, called Sharni. That land was very snowy and had large fields of tundra where the clovers originate from.
Both the leaves and the flowers affect the carnal. They are not harmful and are safe to eat by anyone. They normally help calm a carnal down if they feel agitated and it makes them feel happy and zen. They have a tendency to want attention when affected by the plant, being very touchy and cuddly.
It especially affects them when they are in the middle of their heat. It tends to help them out sexually, and helps relieve frustration by making them flirty and almost beg for intimacy with their partner.
They have only one genuine fear. So far it's unknown and is only something the carnals themselves know of, and refuses to ever talk about. When asked if they will allow experiments to be made on them, they refuse, and since forcing a carnal to do something they do not consent to is a high risk of them transforming, no attempted experiments have been made to confirm what their weakness is.
However it is well known that Water is a highly effective neutralizer for a berserking carnal. They are not afraid of water per se, but will become incredibly docile and quiet if exposed to for example rainfall. However, exposing them to too much water as for example if they were dropped in a lake will begin melting their skin off into a plasma-like substance, exposing their bones and eventually slowly killing them.
Doing this however does not seem painful for the carnal, as they seem to almost enjoy it. We speculate that the water helps numb the rage and helps them relax while safely removing them from their stressful demonic shell.
Carnals also have remarkable healing capabilities. With a spirit made up of positively charged Limbo and a body made from neutral Limbo, the spirit can help the body heal at an astounding rate compared to what a regular Prevalent can. They aren't immortal per se, but give them some time and they can heal from fatal injuries such as broken backs, bones, stab wounds and similar injuries. What normally takes weeks for a prevalent, only takes a couple days if not hours for a carnal.
If you plan on killing a carnal, always make sure the body is dead before leaving, otherwise there's a risk the carnal may come back. The only way to ensure proper death is by for example beheading or hanging, as the hanging will snap the neck and the beheading is obvious. If you choose to hang the carnal, always make sure to drop the carnal from a higher altitude while hanging so the neck snaps or breaks, as only strangling it will not do much harm to it.
A carnal has five phases when transforming with the fifth being their largest and final form. However rumors say a Carnal can enter the Overdrive phase, A.K.A the rumoured Phase 6. Though as far as we know, it's only a myth and is not confirmed to be true. When asked about it they mostly scoff it off as either a joke, a myth, or simply do not respond to it at all.
A carnal’s human form can indeed be of other species. Meaning their base form does not have to be human for the spirit to possess their body. However, this is only achievable through crossbreeding. When a carnal has a child with another species that's not in any form human, the Carnal's soul is still split and given to the child, just like normal. But, full-bred carnals ALWAYS has their physical form as human. So if you see a carnal that is not human, then they are most likely not a fullbred carnal. And if they are fullbred but not human, then they may not be a natural born carnal, as carnals have the ability to be "refilled" with Limbo. Why they are human-looking is generally unknown.
Some theories suggest that they either evolved alongside humans or are a subspecies of human. The most popular theory (which is currently the candidate as the official explanation) is that a version of Earth became "divided" into two because of a mutation in Limbo, causing the body and the mind of all humans of that specific planet to grow up as separate "duplicate" entities. The fact that their forms generally seem to come from Earth canines/felines supports this theory (although there is nothing in a carnal's genes that says their demon form MUST be of earth origin, cases of extraterrestrial canine/feline-looking creatures can also occur, allthough less commonly.)
This does not make them any weaker, however. Even if you're only a half-carnal or quarter-carnal, you can still transform and have the abilities and strength of a regular carnal. It's only in a smaller scale the less of a carnal you are. If this pattern continues however, the demon will begin withering away until it is basically gone and you are no longer considered a carnal.
Though as stated above, it is possible to "refill" a carnal body with a new spirit. However this requires a small part of the original carnal to still be alive in the body so it can recharge on new Limbo. Attempting to insert only Limbo will lead to nothing, and inserting a foreign spirit that does not originally belong to the body will lead to immediate rejection.
Their carnal shape is chosen when very young. It depends on the first canine/feline animal they see. The spirit deems that form suitable, attaches to it and mimics its shape. It could be from a picture in a book, a photograph, a vision or anything similar. As mentioned, males go for canines while females go for felines (because they choose the one that fits their nature best), meaning males will ignore pictures/visions of felines and vice versa. But as mentioned earlier, it can happen that males go feline and females go canine.
This happens at a VERY young age (younger than the age they usually choose form), when they don't have the knowledge or sense that they shouldn't choose that form. That's why it's very common for the parents to purposely help the kid avoid their animal opposite until they're old enough. For example; getting them a pet dog or cat, depending on the child's gender, to give them a little kickstarter of which one they should mimic in both shape and behavior. The parents do this as to not put the child in harm's way, since if for example a male child chooses a feline, he will be seen as an outcast among his friends and family.
There are rare cases where a young carnal can mistake another animal for being in the canidae/felidae family, when in fact they belong to another family in the animal kingdom that happen to look feline/canine. A pretty common mix-up is with Hyenas, who are often mistaken as being part of the canidae kingdom when in reality they are part of their own family known as Hyaenidae. Hyenas are biologically different from dogs and cats, but do share behavioral traits with both felines and canines, which can cause confusion. If a child picks an animal from the Hyaenidae family, physically they won't be negatively affected besides the occasional feeling of being an outcast from "normal" carnals, being pushed out as the "runt" of the pack. Interestingly, these carnals tend to display less frequent outbursts of anger and tend to be abnormally docile compared to regular carnals, plus reaching Unity is generally achieved at an earlier age. The reason why is unknown, however theories suggest that being pushed out of a pack causes less social pressure to behave "like a carnal" with little to no standards and expectations, and the demon not quite knowing how to handle this "third identity" and settling in easier into their body. However some of these carnals (depending on personality, mental wellbeing, genetics, etc.) are also unfortunately more prone to mental and emotional issues later in life, with a more likelihood of depression and a feeling of not belonging in their body or in society, as they are a pack-oriented species.
Meaning behind natural behaviors:
Leaning foreheads against each other - A sign of affection and trust. It’s a mutual way of telling someone “I love you”, whether it’s to a love interest, family or a friend.
Placing their chin in another person’s palm (phase 5 only) - Another sign of trust. If a person reaches out their palm to a phase 5-carnal and they proceed to slide their chin onto it, they show you that they promise to not eat, harm, or do anything to other people around them.
Closing eyes (Phase 5 felidae only) - Another sign of trust, as some felidae cannot purr to show comfort and trust, they close their eyes instead and let their guard down because they trust the person in their presence to not harm them.
