Description On a side road heading away from this storm. We needed fuel at this point, but pushed on until Ipswich. Had we been at that gas station 10 minutes earlier, we might have seen the wedge, but noooo... Instead, the power went out before we could fuel up so we quickly got the hell out of there.

This is why I hate Los Angeles and love movies where it gets nuked. There IS no sky here. Just light and heat pounding you into the concrete. And there is NOTHING but concrete. I've seen suburban Chicago backyards bigger than the parks here.

Thanks for this little reminder that the Earth is still alive. I can almost feel the wind in this shot. Oh, and the ground is lovely too. And well-placed, as is the little vortex on the left. And it has a rainbow centered on it to boot!

Thank you so much for the wonderful comment! It's made my day!

This was the most incredible storm I've seen and a lot happened while we were on it, like nearly getting killed by the damn thing. You can read more about that in my journal entry, The Dangers of Storm Chasing . I absolutely love this photo, and ending up with a rainbow that I didn't even know I had was icing on the cake. I may not have seen the monster wedge that many others did, but the storm itself had such incredible structure that it made up for it.

I'm sorry about the weather in LA. I've heard it's just too nice out there for these types of storms. But if you'd like to chase, let me know. I chase with the College of DuPage every spring/summer and I'd be glad to give you more information on it.

Thanks again for such a wonderful comment. I can't tell you how much I appreciate it.

Thank you! There's a bit of a rainbow in there as well, it's just really hard to see. It's one of my favorite shots from the trip.
