Description
A trip to a park in the middle of Copenhagen gave a bunch of cute photos of red squirrels - they were really afraid of me, but not enough to run very far: My zoom lens got some really great photosAs always, I would like to hear your opinions on this photo, and I would like to know which of the photos in the series you like the best

cool - Denmark used to have black squirrels, but the red ones almost made the black ones extinct, except on a small island that hasn't been inhabited by the red ones yet

We have been invaded by the american grey's here which carry a virus of some sort that has almost wiped out our Red Squirrels with only a few pockets of them left in certain areas, so to be able to walk amongst them you should feel very lucky, but to get shot's like these very

That's so cool. We have several types of squirrels here, but they don't have the little ear tufts like yours do.

yeah I saw a documentary about that once - there should be some island somewhere where there are still red ones that have not been hassled by the grey ones yet it's a shame, really - those red guys are really cute

Yeah I know I guess that if the grey is more resiliant it will replace the red eventually though.
Still, the greys can be cute sometimes: [link]

Reading your comment it sounds like they have similar behavior like ours here in Holland: careful and avoiding contact with humans, while still being curious about anything that happens in their territory. The aren't much mammals that have such a clear conflict in behavior when meeting people. Maybe that is also why I consider this shot one of the best, since it shows this. Most people consider them to be cute, but they are really quite temperamental and sometimes very intolerant.

yeah that sounds a lot like them though only in the densely populated areas like the old cemetery these were photographed in - in the forest where I lived as a kid, the squirrels really weren't that happy to stay around when you were there
