Best viewed ( and intended to be viewed) using the "Sitback" feature in the main gallery in fullscreen mode, just hit the pause button to keep the image up.Viewing it on anything but a black background *really* washes it out.
This is my entry for the "Newborn" contest over on Conceptart.org.
Y'know, I doubt i'll win the contest but to be honest its fine if I don't, its been so long since Ive been able to do a personal work and the topic was something I just couldnt resist.
Due to being short on time and inbetween assignments I knew I had to do something with lots of negative space.
Luckily the image-size requirements weren't hugenormous so I got down to it and busted this guy out.
Well..."busted out" for me is about 4 days, 8+hours a day -hee hee!

Im allowed to bust on the brits, my mother is from there and I had horrible teeth as a kid, not terribly skinny or big headed though.

seriously man you've gotta get some movie stuff happening your stuff is so cinematic. How fast can you crank a mood piece out if you where doing it like a 9-5 job kinda hours? - just curious

It depends on how the client wants it.
If its quick and dirty concept stuff to get ideas down then easily several a day, but thats only if they arent going to be published or viewed by the public.
Stuff that gets viewed by the public takes me a long time. I work a lot more than 9-5 hours, so if the client wants something small, say like card-game size art which is generally 2X2 inches at 300 dpi - then thats about 4 days, maybe 5.
Anything larger than that and were talking a week+

32 hours is pretty fast work for something as detailed as this! All the components of the picture tie together very nicely. The ominous green glow is perfect, and you've got just the right amount of lighting to highlight the grizzly features, but enough shadow to keep the viewer guessing
