Story:  (from an rp between myself and Chickenly <3 )
Chester:   "Oh, neither do I," he replied on the subject of motorbikes, "Not the person to talk to about that stuff, here. I don't think I've ever even seen-" suddenly, he stopped in his tracks, brows furrowing, the hair on the back of his neck standing on end.
Something was up, and this wasn't some of the classic wasteland-induced paranoia.
"Awh, shit..." he whispered, taking a step back, "Might wanna get down, kid."

Harvey:  Harvey tries to glare at Chester but ends up smiling instead. Even if he's embarrassed it's still kinda funny since he reacted so well. He pauses as he feels something off, and sees that Chester does as well. He nods and ducks into a cluster of tall plants and rubble nearby, pulling out his dart gun.

Chester:   At first, all was quiet, with the exception of the standard ambient noise that comes with being in a post-apocalyptic city. Getting low to the ground, Chester crawled towards a vantage point atop some rubble and perched there, Allie gripped tightly in his hands as he looked through the scope.
Then, a low breathing. Grunting, shuffling, and then a bang.
A huge Deathclaw burst its way through a pair of metal doors that had been blocking it's path, claws wicked sharp and drool dribbling from its mouth. It could not see its targets, but it knew something was out here; it could smell it.
"Oh, fuck me..." Chester whispered through clenched teeth; usually, it wasn't so easy to bring out something as big as a Deathclaw with maximum stealth. Usually, he would've remained still and fled at the first opportunity, but he had someone with him. A meat shield, if you will; a target besides himself, that seemed inclined to use short-ranged weaponry.
Holding his breath, he fired at the Deathclaw, a bullet splitting through its shoulder. It roared with a mixture of agony and fury, turning to face Chester with its lips curled back and claws extended.
All the shot seemed to do was piss it off.

Harvey:  Harvey's eyes widened as the deathclaw burst the doors. He winces as Chester's shots hit her, and scrambles to get out of cover. He gently but firmly pushes Chester out of his way, back toward the bushes. He nearly gets clipped by the claws, but barely flinches back. "Hey pretty lady. Its ok! You're ok! Chill out sweetheart!" He carefully postures himself and lilts his tone of voice in ways he's tried with deathclaws before, giving a shaky smile as she growls and gnashes her teeth towards Chester. He gestures slowly at Chester, trying to have him back away.

Chester:   "Uhm- what are you doing??" Chester hisses when he's pushed away, scrambling to put a safe distance between him and the Deathclaw, orienting himself so that Harvey was in the middle, "Hey, it's a Deathclaw, dumbass! Not some cute chick that you're trying to calm down after-" he gasped when teeth were gnashed in his direction, and he stumbled back several feet, tripping backwards over a piece of rubble, "The hell are you doing, kid?!"
Whatever Harvey was trying to get him to do, it didn't seem to be working to well. To him, Deathclaws were nothing but big, scaly, and dangerous bad news.

Harvey:  Harvey doesn't take his eyes off the deathclaw, and doesn't change his tone. " You should probably hush, cause your drawing her attention~ And she's already ticked~" The deathclaw looks between them, confused. On one claw, there was the thing that yelled and did things that made her hurt and smelled like food. On the other, there was the strange little creature that smelled like mud and looked like good plants and made funny soft noises. Even though the first one smelled tasty, she was inclined to investigate the green one that made it stop being loud and hurty. Keeping an eye on Chester, the deathclaw starts snuffling Harvey as he gestures again to him. "Get were she can't see you at least, pigeon~"

Chester:   ”I should hush? You’re the one talking to this thing like it’s a baby! It’s a several hundred pound- ah, forget it. You wanna die here? I can always find some other sap to lead me around,” Chester spat, scowling at the Deathclaw as he began to make a sudden dash for a nearby broken catwalk and clamber up it, Allie strapped to his back as he tried to duck behind some crates.
He wasn’t going to let the thing go, most likely. Harvey was distracting her, and if he could just aim one shot at the head... usually, he could sell the hands for a good bit of caps.

Harvey:  The small mud creature smells nice, like rain. It makes little chirrups that remind her of pups.. With Chester out of sight, he's fading out of mind. She sinks down onto her haunches and dips her head down to eye level with Harvey and rumbles at him. He smiles and copies her motions. She tilts her head and he does the same. She huffs. The little green thing is.. funny. She leans forward and gives him a lick, nearly making him fall out of his crouch and onto his butt. Little Green Thing tastes like mud too.. She doesnt know what she expected.
Rather than lick a strange deathclaw, Harvey brings his hand up carefully and rubs her nose. He relaxes as she accepts it, and smiles.

Chester:   Allie was aimed right for the Deathclaw’s eye. Narrowing his eyes, Chester shifted slightly to a more comfortable position, holding his breath to keep the scope locked on his target.
She’s distracted. Now’s his chance.
However, just as he’s about to pull the trigger, something startled him; an explosion of feathers close to him of a startled pigeon upon recognizing he was a little too close to its nest, and his aim was thrown off, and the gun was pointed at Harvey instead.
The gun fired. Fortunately, due to inaccuracy of the aim it would likely do nothing more than nick him, but nonetheless... it was a miss, and he had no silencer on his gun.

Harvey:  The deathclaw seemed to be reacting to him even better than he'd hoped, Harvey  smiled wider. Then flinched hard at the sound of a gunshot, and the almost immediate pain. A bullet had nearly brained him, catching on his ear and grazing his cheek. The fire on his face had nothing on the ice in his belly. Holy Fuck he'd almost died of friendly fire. Or at least, he hoped it was still friendly. The deathclaw shot up at the noise, nose flaring. She whipped her head around looking for the source, but Chester's perch worked out for him, because she couldn't spot him.. She paced around the area searching, but not finding anything.. She went back to the Little Green Thing and sniff him over, growling in alarm at the smell of blood. She like the funny green thing! It shouldn't be broken! Harvey was surprised as he was scooped into a pair of strong paws, a soft tongue running over the side of his head. He winced as the wound stung, but was touched at the concern. As he let the deathclaw have her way, he looked over to where Chester had run off too. He raised a brow at him, making a fingergun towards his head in a wordless question.

Chester:   "Fuck..." Chester hissed under his breath when he realized he had just accidentally hit Harvey. Quietly trying to get into a position to see what had to just happened, he was relieved to see that at least he hadn't killed the guy; doing that probably would've ended up bad for him, giving how the Deathclaw seemed to...
Pick him up and start licking him, like a mother would. Chester watched with bewilderment, his mouth hanging open and his brows furrowed. How the hell was...? A deathclaw??
When he was finger-gunned at, Chester popped his head up briefly and shrugged, mouthing the word 'accident.'

Harvey:  Harvey raised a brow at Chester, but accepted it. To be fair, he was right next to a 'target'. Right now, he was more concerned with how he was going to escape his nurse. He wiggled in her grip, and was pleased when she grumbled and set him down. He was pretty sure that as long as he didn't do anything to hurt her now, she'd be good.. He took a few tenative steps away, smiling as she just watched. A few more.. And now she was standing.. And following him. Oh, dear. Normally, he'd be thrilled, but... He couldn't take a wild deathclaw into a settlement! ..He sort of wished Spud were here, cause he could probably get her to go with him instead.. He sighed. Well, he could get close enough to show Chester where to go.. As long as he didn't make her mad again. But, he wouldn't be able to go himself, unless the lady lost interest. Which isn't seeming likely. He plops down on the ground and addresses the room. "Okay, so. Uh. Two options I guess. Either we get close enough to Hess that I can just point the way and you can figure the rest out. Or we go back to my camp, have dinner or something and try again later. One noise for one, Two for two." The deathclaw crouches near him again and tilts her head at his voice. Cutie...

Chester:   Part of Chester wanted to try and shoot at the Deathclaw again, but given that he had accidentally just scraped his guide, and it didn't seem to be much of a threat... he sight and ran his fingers through his hair, looking back up when he heard Harvey speak.
There was a few moments of silence as he thought his options over. He wasn't exactly in much of a rush, and free food was always something he was interested in... plus, having contacts around the city would be good.
Just in case he needed to hide, or something.
Eventually, two knocks could be heard coming from up on the catwalk.

Harvey:  Harvey grins at the knocks. And hauls himself back up, wobbling a bit and steadying himself on the deathclaw. "Ok, ok. I'd tell you to go out of sight and roll around in the dirt for a bit to cover your scent but who knows what sorta sharp  stuff is laying around here.." He put a hand on his chin and looked up at Chester's perch. "Uhhh. Ok, let her see you, but don't come down just yet. Let her chill out first, and then go slow."

Chester:   "I have deduced that you are completely insane," Chester spoke quietly, slowly scooting out from behind the cover and staring down at the Deathclaw with a wary look on his face, his gun still in his hand in case it decided to try and come at him, "If this thing eats me, I'm blaming you," he spoke through clenched teeth as he finally stood within the line of sight.

Harvey:  Harvey laughed at that. "Ah, who knows! I just.. I spend more time with creatures than people " He shrugef, then put a hand on the deathclaw's head as she spotted Chester and began growling. She shoots him a look.
There's a thing up there! A thing! She growls at it; it'd better not do anything! The little Green thing puts a paw on her. It seems very relaxed even though the thing is there.. She glares at the perched thing. She remembers the smell.. but she'll trust her Green thing for now. She settles down.
Harvey smiles as she seems to come to a decision. "Alright. You can come down now! Just take it slow. No sudden movements or yelling, okay?"

Chester:   "...I can tell," Chester replied, squinting down at Harvey, his gaze flicking between the two. He flinched when the creature began to growl at him, repressing the urge to flee back to cover, "You should really just... let me shoot this thing..." he frowns as he slowly began to climb down from the catwalk, staring the Deathclaw in the eyes as his feet hit the ground.
"Hi, big... lizard," his nose wrinkled up slightly, "What are you planning on doing with this thing?"

Harvey:  He looked at the deathclaw, who was looking warily at Chester but behaving. "Well, if she loses interest before we get home, then nothing. But if she stays all the way.. I guess I'll see how she does with Spud, and she can stick around if she wants!" He grins, then his eyes widen. "Oh, yeah! Since we're goin to my place, I oughta warn you about Spud." He starts walking, putting a hand on Chester's shoulder to let him know to keep close for now. The deathclaw stomps after them curiously.
"Spud wouldn't do anything to ya if youre with me, but I don't want you spooking and shooting him yknow? He's about the size of the lady here, so I figure he'd be a bit intimidating.. Do you know what a Gulper is?"

Chester:   ”Woahwoahwoah, wait, kid- you’re going to try and keep this thing? At your house? Where you live?” Chester stared at Harvey with disbelief, putting a hand on his temple, ”The thing could turn on you at any time! More importantly, it could also turn on me at any time, too,” he frowned and shook his head as he followed Harvey.
”A gulper? No, I’ve never heard of one, but I’d be damned if it didn’t sound intimidating.”

Harvey:  Harvey looked at Chester amused. "Yeah, I am. If thatch what she wants. As long as she has a steady supply of food, she should be fine. Especially since she's already pretty relaxed~" He walked next to Chester as he listens to him. "Oh, hm. Well a gulper.. They're about the size and shape of a deathclaw, but smoother. And amphibious. And they tend to eat anything that moves if it'll fit in their mouth. ..And they're big enough to swallow an adult, so.." He shrugs. Its good for keeping the raider corpses from piling up."

Chester:   "And if you run out of food? You're pretty screwed, then," Chester replied, side-eyeing the Deathclaw as they walked. He hadn't taken his eyes off of it ever since it stormed into his line of sight, and he certainly wouldn't be letting down his guard anytime soon.
As sweet as it was acting towards Harvey, a Deathclaw was a Deathclaw.
"... Why do you own these things?" he stared at Harvey with a mixture of confusion and alarm, "Just... keep that shit away from me, ok? If I need to, I will shoot."

Harvey:  "That's one thing I don't need to worry about, honestly." He makes a face. "There's always more raiders, and barely an ounce of common sense to go around! Where do you think they all come from, anyway? It seems like I have to pick through more every week.."
He gives Chester a look. "Well, companionship. It's not like anything else wants to live there, yknow? This gal isn't the greatest fit for a swamp, but it is what it is. And please dont, unless something actually tries attacking you?"
They were getting close, and he'd rather not have any fighting in his camp.

Chester:   "...So they're like a defense service? Christ, I can understand keepin 'em around for that but..." Chester jumped slightly when the Deathclaw just moved a tad bit out of the norm, "Also, I dunno. As far as I'm concerned raiders are just grow like a pack of rats. They're not that self-respecting, either. Maybe it's the chems that they pump into their bloodstreams constantly that make them think they'd win in a fight against something like that," he gestured to the giant lizard, "And maybe the same reason is why you think you can keep one of these guys around for an extended period of time, buuut... I'll just wait and see what happens."
"So instead of finding companionship in like, a hound, or a beggar or a cat or something you chose giant, deadly creatures? That's fucked up, Chester raised an eyebrow, "Well, yeah. You think I'm dumb enough to try and take on something like this when I don't have a place to climb?"

Harvey:  Harvey shrugged "Maybe. And I don't touch the stuff. Doesn't agree with me.." He laughs at Chester's ideas for companions. "Well, I can see the appeal around settlements and such, but can you imagine how matted furry critters would get with all this mud?" He gestures around them, indicating that they've entered the edge of the swamp. "I'm not totally sure how this girl with do, but this is a gulper's natural habitat!"

Chester:   "That sucks," Chester replied, and once again it was difficult to tell if he was being serious or not. He had an addiction to Med-x himself, and he was far from grateful for it, but also... chems.
"Then get a like...regular-sized lizard, or something. A fish?" he laughed as he scratched his chin idly, "You're kidding me, right? These things are one of the most damn adaptable sons-of-bitches in this wasteland. I'm sure it would do just peachy."

Harvey:  "Well, to be fair, I found Spud when he was little and he just.. never left." He chuckles. As they get closer to his campsite, he starts directing Chester around hidden traps. Bones litter the area, scattered about so they dont give away the blank spots. As Chester mentions how adaptable deathclaws are, his looks at their companion. She's sniffing around, looking right at home. And thankfully she seems to have picked up on one of Spud's paths. "Ah, I hope so!" He smiles at Chester, grateful for the grudging reassurance. "Ah! Almost there~"
