Even when I try to go dark, the color bomb tends to explode on me. I can't help it...it consumes me!

Really cool. The symbolism escaped me till I read the above posts, but I really like it. One minor critique: her hand seems a bit odd. If it's facing up, then the lump of flesh on her palm next to her thumb should be more prominent, as well as the shadow of the hollow of her palm; but if it's facing down then the shadows of her "knuckles" don't make sense - and even if the hand is facing up I think they are a bit overemphasized.

Kinda kidding! You're killin' me here. First the steam, now the hand. Geesh. What a tough crowd. On a serious note, I do appreciate your critique though. I'm sure if you say it, others were thinking it. Thanks for keeping me on my toes

Hey man, the steam was just a matter of personal taste. You can't really say something's "right" or "wrong" with a picture that's that... swooshy

It's wonderful how you would interpret the chain of events in this piece. When I look at the different symbolism you have use here, how I come to understand is, an individual who experiences life, goes through a series of changes in life. First life seem to be going well, and than something happens, a low point represented by the skull, where there are great hardships and trials but than because the individual did not give up, it led the person to find something more, love within and around represented by the heart, and than from the understanding of the gift of love, in connection to God, it opens that freedom inside to be free which is represented by the wings..
I love how you put this all together: )

Really nice. After seeing the object falling in her hand I now assume that the other piece was indeed meant to elude to Christ. (that is assuming the object is symbolic of Jesus' life and death)

That is a very good interpretation. The images are intended to go the other direction, but what I intend and what a viewer gets are often different, and I have absolutely no problem with that. I had imagined the star first, representing worldly dreams (like becoming a 'star'. Then the skull, which represents those kinds of dreams being crushed and dying, leaving a person feeling empty or dead inside. Then the heart, which is finding REAL love (the love of Christ, since any human love with at some point waver or even fail), and then the wings which are freedom. The Bible says we will soar with wings like eagles. I like that idea.

I also find that my work is often interpreted very different than my intentions, but the interpretations are usually of the same essence.
I read them as Wings=Jesus with the Father before being incarnated, Heart=being born into the flesh (gaining a physical heart of flesh), skull=crucifixion and death for 3 days, star=being reborn. I can't really explain why the star read as rebirth for me, but it did.
I also like the passage about wings like eagles If you haven't researched eagle flight before it's fascinating - they do some exciting things.
