hmm.... how do you get rid of the one solid color for the markings part? Thats the only thing i'm confused on...

You can either use the fill bucket, or select the solid colour and use the right click rubber.

BuffyandBramble In reply to SuperCheezy-ER [2011-10-06 16:25:03 +0000 UTC]

My Paint is the standard MS Paint that came with my computer, so I'm not sure how that works....
Which ones are you missing?

SuperCheezy-ER In reply to BuffyandBramble [2011-10-11 14:53:58 +0000 UTC]

the main one im missing is the background.

The background? I'm not quite following.
You perhaps mean the button that allows you to have the invisible background? If it's that one then you need to have selected the one of the top two tools that allows you to select areas, and it should pop up underneath that toolbar. =/

This definitely makes me want to sprite more. I think my problem is understanding how shadows should look. I get the whole light source thing, but my brain doesn't comprehend how a light source in a specific area would affect the shadows. -.- Yay for picture references, or I'd never have been able to do my dragon bust sprite.

Sometimes looking at muscle diagrams can be helpful, as it shows where larger muscle areas are. It's these bits that will catch the light more, and there'll sometimes be shadows behind them. It you moved your light source around, the highlights would likely stay in a similar place, but the shadows would shift to be behind the highlights, in line with the direction your light is coming from.

So if your light source was going This was --> it would be a bit like this:
-->, highlight, shadow.
But if your light source was this was <-- it would be more like:
shadow, highlight, <--
Grabbing a toy and a torch might be helpful as well, if you shift the torch about you'll get to see how the shadows and highlights move as well.

If any of that made sense, I'll be amazed. xD

It makes sense. I'll have to play around with some lighting. Maybe borrow my dogs as models, lol.

Part 2! It came out amazing I learned things about MSPaint that I didn't know, and am tempted to make my own sprite! Maybe I'll try when I get some free time. Thanks for the tutorial! cx

lol, I'm not making them small enough! It's driving me crazy!!!!! DX

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

BuffyandBramble In reply to HydraTamer [2011-08-02 12:59:12 +0000 UTC]

They don't have to be tiny! A common size is 100x100 pixels because it fits well as an avatar, but you can get sprites of all sizes!
