Hi,
Don't know the actual name of the joint. Β Sorry. Β I've added a really rough sketch to show how I did it.

Hope that helps.
BTW, thanks for the watch.

Do you happen to sell any of your puppets? Because I would cut off my legs to have a lamia marionette!

I hadn't thought of selling any of my puppets. The lamia took about eighty hours just to carve the 7 foot snake part and the 2500 individual scales.
I don't know what is reasonable for that amount of work. Granted, I could do it much faster now that I've done one of them and have worked out the process. Probably carve the thing in about 20 to 25 hours. I can carve a full human marionette now in about 8 hours, so the upper torso wouldn't take that long to do.
Painting doesn't take that long, since I have found some ways to do an efficient job that I like. The snake part would take longer because I stained it, then drybrushed highlighted each of the scales with colors to give it some sparkle.
Costuming can take some time, depending on the complexity of the costume.
The lamia that I carved is for a show that I'm doing in the future, so she isn't going anywhere.

Thank you. This marionette is my favorite so far. Probably because it took forever to complete.

I've been asked by a few people to do a tutorial.
I am in the middle of designing a Clydesdale horse and I'm documenting the steps I'm taking. I'm to the point where I can do the tutorial on design. I travel a bunch and I forgot to load my memory stick with the pictures that I took so it will probably be out sometime next month.
There are not a lot of good books on carving marionettes. 30 years ago I read an old book by Oswald(?) Lanchester which was awesome. The reprint is REALLY bad. I leafed through it and it had no pictures, no plans. I had to dust off old brain cells when I started.
I also found one by M. Beaton, which is decent. It doesn't cover carving, but it is still a really good reference.
I made most of my mistakes on the first two puppets I carved. I'm still not an expert, but I'm willing to share what I've managed to figure out. Note me if you have questions when you start. I have taken WIP pictures of everyone that I've carved I just haven't posted any of them.

Thank you.
I was so happy to see the sun.
The ground is frozen solid, but that is perfectly acceptable.
My son took the pictures while I held her up.

I'll add the new marionette when I get the wings and wig. I haven't purchased the wig yet and I'm investigating a new way to do wings.
