Oh, this is so cute!!
I love the look on the bear's face

As for critique, honestly, I'm staring and staring, and can't seem to find any considerable problems in the picture At most the lines could be a tad cleaner in places, but it sort of adds to the charm how they're made too

Adoreable!! It looks like a children's picture book cover. Your watercoloring skills run circles around mine. I've longed to make a successful image with watercolor for a long time and it still hasn't happened yet..

I'm a Fine Art student. I'd find it hard to criticize something that was purely decorative/illustrative. This is really lovely though! I would buy this if it was in a shop. In fact if you do postcards I'm snagging some.

your technique with water colors is very nice! Got any tips for blending?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

c-osmos In reply to urbanninjaman [2011-09-06 22:33:49 +0000 UTC]

Sure, they are no proffesional tips, but this is how I do it: Take the sky I made here. There is blue, pink and a little orange. With a large brush, I do big, wet splash of color. Then I take dry, smaller brush to blend the colors with the background and with each other. I wipe my brush every few strokes so it stays dry. And do many layers!!!
I hope it was helpful

Good work on colors! It is hard to find somebody that knows how to use watercolors these days!

Maybe only you could use some more water at some places, like shadows on the bear and the girl, to make them somehow different than background and more interesting to looks at. For example, spots of indigo or some purple? (for the bear at least, i think he is a bit of a brown distraction in middle of everything )

I do appreciate all the gradience you put in there! I may be overinterpreting, but i see how the darkness starts in upper left corner, goes to mild colors towards middle and goes back dark in lower right corner. Gives it kind of nostalgic feeling... Like something is ending. Enlighten me, was that on purpose?

Last thing- i don't know about the lines. They seem to be pretty uneven and shaky. If you tried to support shading with them , then maybe you should have done it allover the picture, not only on the main characters. It looks kind of like the bear (again xD ) is simply a sticker put in middle of the grass. Yea, i definitely thing that you should have not outlined the grass so much...

Oh well, yes Have fun with this Hope i helped

c-osmos In reply to Impostor1 [2011-09-06 22:41:47 +0000 UTC]

oh and for the darker sky part, it was on purpose! The dark being behind(the past) and the little girl looking forward, on a new journey that lies ahead!

c-osmos In reply to Impostor1 [2011-09-06 22:37:41 +0000 UTC]

I understand what you mean about the bear looking like a sticker, I totally agree. I will try to work my shadows and my color composition in the future...

And the shaky lines!! Gosh my hands shake a lot while I do the final lineart. Wtf, I'm only 17!!

Thank you very much for the kind words and for the criticism, I appreciate it a lot and I'll put your advice to work
You definitely helped a lot

This is very cute! I love the simplicity of it, and the colors are wonderful! The only thing I would say to work on would be to work on anatomy for the bear and person and folds in the dress to make them a little bit less 'blobby' Otherwise this is lovely!
