Another Sonic redesign.With the new designs for "Sonic Boom" out I just had to sigh. I heard rumours last year that SEGA was going to reboot the entire franchise, but it seems they're just once again making their usual AU nonsense without really giving the series the kick in the pants it needs. But Oh... Oooooh the things I would do with this franchise and its characters if I were in any position to do so. Like I always say... there is SO MUCH potential here, but SEGA seems intent on being As batshit insane as possible Β Which is a pity because there is something truly great that can be forged here.
Anyway, I already did a redesign last year that I thought looked cool but with this I wanted to try something new. First, I realised the way I drew him in the first redesign was perhaps a little too human in his proportions which made the lack of clothes kinda weird. So I wanted to lean more towards the original 2D games here. But I also wanted to draw him looking a little more appealing and getting rid of those damn two-in-one eyes. But I also wanted to try and keep more of the original design in it. This was the result. ...I don't think I've hit the right balance I want yet. but he's cute at least.
I would write more about the kind of things I would do with this universe but it's past 3am and I'm tired ;____;

I bought this print from you at Rage back in the day and it's still on my wall.
I look at it these days to cleanse my eyes whenever I catch a glimpse of the monstrosity in Sony's upcoming Sonic movie.
Thus is my sanity preserved.

#1. THANK YOU FOR GETTING RID OF THAT "TWO EYES IN ONE" AND NO-NECK NONSENSE. I don't know what SEGA and Sonic Team were thinking agreeing to that type of design. =w= This looks much better, and not completely jarring. =w=
#2. I really like the short, lean design you gave him. =3 It suits his character, his powers, and his species. ^^ ....and his wittle fwuffy ears, and the fluff to his muzzle instead of being completely smooth... He's so fluffy. 83
Cute-gasm over, I noticed his spines are a lot shorter, too. 0w0 I'd've excepted something kinda longer and wild, but when he was younger, he had shorter spines, so... 9w9 I can chock it up to age. Maybe that'd get longer when he's 17, 18, 19; IDK. x3 It's still a super-cute. ^^
#3. Seeing as how you redesigned the concept of the Chaos Emeralds to Chaos Crystals, are you gonna redesign the concept for the Rings, or are they gonna stay in a confusing position of "powerups/collectibles/currency"? CX
And... Yeah, that's about it. 9w9 I like how snarky and likable you're making him out to be so far, I love the design... and I'd buy a plushie of this guy. >w>

1: I can't draw characters without necks XDD I need necks. Necks are fun. And they are needed for the type of poses and expression I enjoy drawing the most. And I just suck at the two-in-one eyes XDDD I just can't draw them... and they're weird.
2: XDD He's very fluffy!! But he's also very spiky! Especially around his ears 
Personally I always preferred the shorter spines 
3: I actually have no idea what to do with the rings XD;;; They have to be around because they're rings and Sonic needs rings. But I'm not sure how to work them XP I'll think on it a little.

1. It certainly looks like a lot of fun. =3 I wish I had the tools to be able to learn...
2. Oh, my gosh. XD A pet hedgehog named Oliver? x3 That's too much of a coincidence, seeing as I gave Sonic the fanon first-name "Oliver" in a fanuniverse I'm working on. 9w9
Anyway. When you put it like that, it certainly does make more sense for his spines to be upwards, if they're gonna be a spiney-defense. =3 Great use of effect for the redesign to serve their purpose better. ^^
3. I don't think anyone'll harp on ya too much about the rings. x3 Sonic does need them, but compared to Eggman, Shadow, Metal Sonic, etc, the rings become an afterthought. I wouldn't overthink it; just flip a coin/roll the dice and go with it. cx
You're very welcome. ^^ That's very true; he's supposed to be a hero, likable by most who come across him. His first few "Sonic Adventure and onwards" appearances portrayed him as likable and adventurous, but kindhearted and innocent in a way, with age giving him a "snarky little shit" attitude from time to time. XD Balancing it out is tricky, but worthwhile as far as a character goes. ^^ I wish you the best of luck.
Can't wait to see more of Puffy!Sonic, as I'm gonna call him now. =3

But they're working on a Sega title meaning that they are currently Sega employees, so I'm still blaming Sega for this XD
Hopefully the game will actually be GOOD then. But a crappy story will still be a crappy story. So hopefully they put some attention into that as well.

I know the Sonic Boom game is going to be stellar. Why? Well...think about it, these ex-Naughty Dog developers (going by the name of Big Red Button I believe) were part of Crash Bandicoot, Jak and Daxter, Uncharted and The Last of Us. That's why I'm excited and they're giving the franchise the kick in the ass it needs that Team Sonic is too afraid to do.
Team Sonic even showed their "displeasure" of Sonic Boom recently. Yes, because their cringe worthy job of Lost World really leaves them room to complain...

It's not that I don't like it per se. I think the idea of putting bandages around the fastest thing alive is kinda dumb but not because it looks bad. It just doesn't make sense. Bandages can get caught on things or trip you. Not to mention putting anything loose around your neck when you travel as super sonic speeds is a REALLY dumb idea. Forget getting choked if that gets caught on something, it'll snap your neck in two! I just don't think it's a practical design at all.
Plus, I was hoping by "Reboot" they would try and take the franchise and characters back to their roots... but it doesn't look like it. Which is a pity.

Well its called sports tape, and some athletes use it.Β But I kinda see what you mean about it.
Well it looks like they are going to use mobians and not humans like they did on Sonic X.Β So that is something that is good.Β and Reboot is kinda subjective, since every TV show has been very diffrent anyway.Β The game is only modleing the characters after the show.Β so the designs may not be a permanent thing in gaming.Β Remember Eggman in 2006?Β That did not stay.
I think it should be given a chance, we should not go hating it just because of some tape. and of course, steroids. LOLΒ And the game seems to be the first in a long time that we get to play as other characters.Β the last game was SA2Β That was a long time ago.Β Would be awesome to play as Tails again as long as they don't dumb him down like they been doing.
