youtu.be/yBVAYzu91F4Ok, so here's the thing about Knuckles' new design. In this case I actually like the athletic tape. If you remember the redesign I did last year I actually DID give him tape around his hands before Sonic Boom was even a thing. It's because he uses his fists (and claws) as his main attack, so I imagined it'd be like what fighters use in real life to protect their.. uhm.... knuckles. In his case however it would probably be more around his fingers and thumb... because the dude needs fingers. I mean what the hell Sega??! However I don't really understand why they have him tape up his upper arms as well.
But I still don't really like his design. I don't mind that he's more muscular. Again that makes sense because he's a digger, and I actually like that he's taller than the others. Again, it makes sense since he's more physical and he's also the oldest of the 4 main characters (last I heard he's either 16 or 17). My problem however, is I felt they just overdid it a little. They made him FAR too bulky and he's more than an entire head taller than Sonic. That's... a little too much. Also, I feel his design is done rather poorly as far as balance goes. He has these massive shoulders and arms, but then he has these really skinny legs and a round, childish looking face and head. I wonder if this was a mandate by Sega team given to the show's designers. It wouldn't surprise me. Sega's insane.
Tying his quills up in a ponytail is just my personal fetish XD Nothing more to say about that.
Knuckles is actually one of my favourite characters in the franchise. I love the cranky, hot tempered characters who are actually really nice guys... but they'll punch you in the face to show affection sometimes. However, I don't like how he's been portrayed in the last few incarnations as being kinda stupid. Naive and gullible is one thing but stupid? I don't like that

Echidna's are one of only 2 mammals that lay eggs... and in the Archie comics (which I never really read) they are completely and utterly aware of this and treat it as a normal fact.
I was curious about this so I looked it up; Echidnas aren't poisonous but the males DO have the barbs on their rear feet the same as the Platypus. But unlike the Platypus they're not attached to venom glands.
....btw Platypuses are poisonous. Not deadly, unless you're allergic or something, but enough to give you a nasty rash. As if they couldn't get any stranger 8D
Too bad though. If Echidna were also poisonous Knuckles could've been a kick-boxer instead who kicks you in the face with spiked ankles AND poisons you!! But alas, it's not to be.
I've talked far too much.

I know this deviation's old so I won't say too much, but I'll say I read the whole description of this, and Sonic No Zone and found them interesting. Especially this one. Definitely interested my mind.
And btw, the quills-into-ponytail is what got me into this- and thus your Gallery- to begin with. I was looking for pictures to look at to help inspire me in making a cartoony male ponytail, and I found this as one of the ones to inspire me.

Being a Sonic Fanboy, I think the design is just awesome! His Ponytail is a very nice touch (Lol, feel like a sir) And his Green things on his legs are amazing! I've also seen your Tails and Sonic one. All of your drawings are so unique! There are no words to describe this drawing... So let's use EMOTICONS!

It's nice to see that the 'tying back his quills' thing is becoming more and more popular; I've wanted to see it be done more for a while. ^^ He looks nice with his quills tied back; it's great to see it more, especially from great artists. =3
Very nice design for Knuckles; he's definitely larger than the others, with more muscle to him, but he doesn't look out of place or disproportioned. It suits his character, species and abilities nicely. ^^
Now, with the idea of Echidnas brought up, it makes me wonder what your ideas for his tribe/clan would be/are. 0w0 With no emeralds, and instead shards of crystals, it really makes me curious about this world's mythos and what Knuckles' new role in it is. Like, if Knuckles is really the last, or if they're still around and just kinda rare to find; if he still guards something, be in a Master McGuffin or just his home; whether Chaos is different, the same, or even in this world; and even the deal with those shards, where and what they came from, and if Knuckles' people had part in it. Knuckles and his people were super important to the world's mythos, so I'm incredibly curious to see what your ideas for any changes would be. =3 Keep it up!

XDD I've had a thing for that the past few years. I also realised that with all the physical things Knuckles does with punching and digging and whatnot, long quills are gonna get in the way. Of course cutting them would be problematic XDD so tying them is the next best thing. (although now I do wonder what he's look like with them trimmed... although I'm sure that's impossible. I dunno about Echidna but hedgehogs just shed their quills. They don't really like... get trimmed... or whatever.... *talking gibberish* )
And you know, I'd never really considered going into that but I think I should. Especially since the whole Echidna thing is ANOTHER really convoluted and weird story choice by whoever wrote that storyline. Or at the very least I don't really get it. I can probably come up with something for myself like everything else of these I don't really undertand XD;; but I should probably research it first before I change it... I'd expect others to do that so I should probably do it myself.

Oh, yeah, the deal with the echidnas can get kind of convoluted if you don't do your homework big-time. 9w9 And even then, there are still a few blank spots in that whole story-thread that most people are forced to fill in themselves anyway. =I
I mean, I personally really like it, and at its kind of a simple matter at its core -- ("1000 years ago, the echidnas were blood-hungry douchebags except for the one chick we ever saw, they hurt/killed a bunch of Chao to get the Chaos Emeralds, the Chaos' Water God buddy, Chaos, got pissed and presumably killed a bunch of the echidnas, and Tikal sealed her soul inside the Master Emerald to stop him from blowing everything up." And then there's a big 1000 year gap between then and Knuckles' time period, and his being the "last" STILL has no explanation. =I) -- but even I'll admit it can get to a silly level of convoluted the more you try to grasp it and fill in the blanks. Especially after they threw the Nocturnus in and gave it a super complex history with its wars and junk; and then you try to reach the Archie comics, which gets even MORE complicated and confusing, and you eventually just give up and do whatever you want. =I
Not that I have personal experience with it, or anything. 9u9
But I guess that's the beauty of it, especially with an AU. You can take a lot more liberties with that whole convoluted thing with the echidnas and do something that makes a bit more sense. =3 And I guess they leave a whole bunch of blanks for everyone to fill in at their leisure, leaving even more room for possibilities. It shouldn't be too hard to come up with something just as good, or even better, that's less complicated to grasp. 0w0
I'm curious to see what you come up with, if you do happen to tackle that issue. ^^

That probably is all I really need to know about THAT concrete octopus of a backstory XDD;; I remember seing something like that in Sonic X. It was weird. And kinda dumb. and weird.
Also, I most likely won't have any chao in this AU universe thingy whatever. I don't particularly like the anime trope of "cutsey animal mascot" and I see no real point to adding them to the story. XP So the Master Crystal/emerald/toaster will have to get an overhaul as to what it means.
I just downloaded 250 comics of the Archie series 8D is it worth it? I know it's VERY stupid in parts, but I hear it's got its moments.
And I think I've developed an idea for the whole Echidna/Knuckles thingy

Yeah, it was basically the same thing in Sonic X: echidnas were douchebags, Chaos killed them for being douchebags, Tikal sacrificed herself so Chaos wouldn't blow up the Earth/Mobius/Whatever the planet is called, and Knuckles' origin is still a complete mystery even once he learns that his people were complete pricks. The end. |D
I have to agree with ya about the Chao, and it's a surprisingly rare opinion these days for the sake of nostalgia. 9.9 Refreshing to know I'm not alone... Chao are cute and everything, and I like the potential they have as animal companions, but they've gotten to a position of pointlessness. |D They used to have a big role in Sonic; not so much anymore. >w> (I wonder what that would mean for Cream in this AU, in that case. 9.9)
As for the comics... I wouldn't know super accurately. XD Honestly, I've never owned a comic, but I have read the summaries for the most part. Depending on the writer, it can be a pretty decent read, and depending on the artist, it's not bad to look at either. =3 But at the same time, it can be clichéd, convoluted and stupid, and there are times where the art can be a bit of an eyesore. I won't say it isn't worth your time, though; it's definitely worth a read to get your own opinion on it, and definitely worth the awesome moments littered about in it. ^^ You just gotta be able to sift through the BS that crops up on occasion. |D
Ah, that's cool to hear. =3 I can't wait to see what you've got going. I'm really liking the AU so far; I certainly hope you'll draw your own version of Eggman sometime soon. ^^

Yeeeaaah. See, I never played any Sonic Games as a kid, so I don't really have nostalgia for things like Chaos. The cartoons and the original characters sure, but not for things that came in around Adventure.
XDD and to be honest... screw Cream. (...That didn't sound right) But I won't be giving her a redesign because she does nothing but annoy me. Even more than Amy. Cream has absolutely no reason to exist.
And yeah XD I'll probably check them out anyway. The first issue is SO TERRIBLE. It's obviously aimed at really young kids and have that horrible Archie comics humour that you'd find in ACTUAL Archie comics. But you gotta start somewhere and I'm a believer in slogging through things from the very beginning.

Aaah. 9w9 Well, I can understand that coming from someone who grew up with nothing but the shows. 9w9 She only had, like... one or two moments in the show; aside from that, she'd faded into the background. To be honest, she used to be kind of a bad-ass in a couple games - holding her own against Eggman, Sonic, and Tails at six years old with only Cheese and no combat experience XD - until she was watered down into a useless, annoying little rabbit girl; kinda like how Knuckles used to be spiritual, naïve and courageous until Sega turned him into a stereotypical, dumb jock. =w= For what you've been exposed to, though, I certainly do not blame you for excluding her. 9w9
Not surprised. XD The older Archie comics were strictly aimed at little kids until they decided to go for an older kid-younger teen demographic. XD Hopefully it doesn't take too long to get to the good stuff. Let me know which issue it gets good at; I wanna read them, but unlike you, I don't have the amazing willpower to deal with the crap. XD

Now this is what they should've done with the redesign for him...I loved they gave him more muscular form and made him taller BUT they did it soooo weird,like the head for starters and his legs. We all joked 'Knuckles skipped leg day' XD Than they did him way too tall as well.
