Something else inspired by Rescue From Midnight Castle.Characters are copyrighted by Hasbro, I guess... the new character designs might be copyrighted by Lauren faust, not sure.

This whole pic alone is better than the S4 G4 finale for the sole reason that Tirek looks exactly as he should.
However it bugs me that it's G4 style, but that's just me. Spike looks off, since he had a lot to do with the special yet here he looks like the modern version which isn't really connected in any way with Tirek.

First off, thanks for the comment.
I think I considered changing Spike's color scheme, at least, to match the G1 version, but decided to use the G4 version as another link between the eras. (Also, I personally prefer his G4 color scheme, and colors in G1 episodes were often... inconsistent, since animators had to mix paints and stuff).
As for Tirek's G4 design... I can at least understand why they changed it so much, I guess. I think they're avoiding referencing anything too human in the tv series, so they changed his "human" part to match a baboon or something.
(Among other stuff, it kinda bothered me the change in how he was related to Scorpan, though.)

BTW i also noticed that you drew them in the new pony style and I LOVE it! Twilight and Firefly are two of my favorite ponies so I definitely squee'd when I saw this

Actually when someone showed Lauren Faust's G4 designs for these characters (which turned into the ones we know and love), something had to be done with it.

Haha... I've only recently discovered G1, actually. Some G1 fans used to comment on some stuff in the talks about the new cartoon, and turned out it had some badass villains, pretty characteristic for their time.

The my little pony show definitely pales in comparison to the pilot movie (the one with tirak) but I do still like it a lot. And I really like Friendship is Magic. The other 3-4 shows in between 1995-2008 made me want to jump off a cliff ._.
And it doesn't matter when you get into G1!
