Description This Chart is officially one year old. So I will no longer be replying to comments on it, There should be plenty in the number it has already to entertain you, thank you so much for looking!

Drawn in 2007 I feel it is time to retire the Female Body Type Chart.

And pass the torch to an updated reference! So I bring to you The Female Body Type Chart Version 2.0! A chart that has been a long time coming.

Disclaimer: this is not a drawing tutorial! If you are looking for ways to improve on your drawing style or anatomy please consult a professional this chart is just to get those creative juices in your brain flowing.

A lot of people ask me “Oh Candy why do you make these charts?” Well, the original is the most faved and the most viewed thing in my gallery and being here for 7 years that says a lot. It says that people are hungry for diversity! And being less than impressed with the so called “size diversity” charts that are currently floating around I decided to make my own! I don’t claim any kind of anatomical correctness with this chart; I would hope that would be obvious with the ill-defined hands, feet and heads. But I know if I don’t mention it now someone will go “people don’t look like that! Go back to art school!” Because it happened on the last chart. Or worse someone is going to complain about my comments on this picture because they got offended at something I said.

Can we skip all that this time around? I’m really not in the mood for a game of Miss the Point. it’s a chart about body type diversity not every girl looks the same, I can't possibly include every body type there is, I’m making a male one as we speak just take it for what it’s worth to you or don’t take it at all.

Average – neither fat nor thin, according to the LA times the average woman is a size 14 in US sizes. She’s not fat and she’s not skinny she’s somewhere in-between.

Fat – yea that’s right! I called that bitch fat. I’m not going to call her “fluffy” or “husky” or “curvy” or any churched up version of the word Fat. It’s a word we need to stop being afraid of! FAT!...fat is not a swear word, it’s not an insult, it doesn’t equal ugly…Fat is a descriptive physical characteristic and nothing more. She knows she’s fat and and she owns it .

Athletic – the Athletic type is another in-betweenie. She’s not muscle bound but she is far from frail. Think lean muscle, like Tennis players, swimmers and female boxers. This types most striking features are slight muscle definition. Enough to be seen but not enough to overwhelm.

Buff – THIS is our Muscle-bound lady the girl hits the GYM but that does not make her any less feminine, as a rule of thumb with my ladies is that their shoulders should never be wider than their hips, this lady is the exception to the rule since extra muscle adds mass and creates the illusion of wide shoulders. Think female body builders, wrestlers and super heroines.

Boteroesque – one of my more controversial ladies, named after Fernando Botero who made a name for himself painting not just big people REALLY big people. This is the biggest person of size I have ever drawn and I’m not going to lie to you guys, it was a lot of guesswork there are virtually NO tutorials on how to draw large figures and the 2 that I did find? Were of men…so she may not be 100% accurate but I REALLY wanted to include on the chart someone who was over 250 pounds, so I aimed for 400.

“Kate Moss” – My other controversial lady, but sadly she’s one we see way more often than the above…I know everyone probably wondering “why didn’t you just name her the Anorexic type Candy!?” because not everyone who is this thin starves themselves to be that way. And whether I like it or not this is a valid character body type. I know that a great deal of them are people who deny themselves food to be like celebrities like Kate Moss but some are like Lizzie Velasquez whatever her reasons are for looking this way this body type is here to stay and can be used as a plot device just like any of the other types.

Petite –a very lithe frame and a low body fat percentage gives this type a slim streamline look with small but perky breasts and the bottom of the rib cage just barely visible, I advise against adding more rib definition than that as it seems to raise a lot of eye brows about your characters eating habits.

Pear Shaped – a.k.a “child bearing hips” it’s like the average type and the petite type had a baby! And the weight from average went right to petites hips and thighs! And there’s no shame in it! The pear shape is quite common in women which is a good thing too because she’s going to need those hips if she aspires to be a mommy some day! Good thing too since women with wider hips have smarter babies , the pear shape is a very misunderstood type since for some bizarre reason most women are under some sort of delusion that if they have wide hips they are fat…when fat is related to fat and hip width is related to skeletal structure…I’ll never understand women, I should a been born a man.

Hour Glass – a shape that made Jessica Rabbit a star and Ralph Bakshi famous! With an iddy biddy waist, a large bust and a butt to match the hour glass is the most easily recognizable womanly shape, perfect for those sex kitten arch types.

Sex Toy – the sex toy is unfortunately a common character type ( note: not a women type. a character type) more often than not drawn by men who have never seen or been with a women or by women who have quite possibly the lowest self esteem imaginable. This type happens when you make the petite super insecure to that she goes and gets breast implants because that is about the only real explanation for why such a thin framed figured would have such large breasts. It’s not realistic but we see it a lot.

Pudgy / Chubby/ Some Extra Baggage – you’ll debate among yourselves and probably with me whether this body type is “fat” or not. Especially in a world where a size 0-2 is what a lot of women aspire to be and where if she was model she would be considered “plus size” (fun fact: plus size modeling starts at size 4 GOD what a bunch of Fatties!) But the truth is she’s just a lazy version of the average type.

this is just how I draw different body types and at the end of the day I hope that you can apply these ideas to how you draw.

This is only the tip of the ice berg when it comes to different body shapes and sizes! But I hope it has opened your mind a little bit to a world of possibilities! That all these types exist and they can all be beautiful! Whether or not they are all “healthy” is not up for debate. Since not all Original characters are healthy nor are all people healthy but unless anyone is making a series with a cast of fitness instructors how healthy a cartoon character is shouldn’t enter into it. BUT for the nay sayers ANYWAYS who a think that “healthy” only comes in one size, need I remind you that Olympic Athletes are the peak of physical condition that is it possible to have and even they come in many shapes & sizes .

TL;DR: Humans come in all shapes and sizes, shouldn’t the character we make come in different packages too? Every size can be beautiful but no size is more beautiful then the one that you are mix and match to find new types!

There’s more tutorials on body type diversity in my club, ’s Gallery! I hope you all like the chart and I hope it helps anyone whose looking on expand their horizons and draw outside the box! thanks for reading!

if your looking for a more technically accurate representation *ghostarin was kind enough to do this wonderful red line at my request! please see here.

the chart will be updated at some point but this will do for now.

If you make another one soon, I've noticed a type missing: The opposite of child bearing hips. A lot of women have any sized breasts and tiny hips and bottoms. It is more common in mid teenagers, but it is still a valid body type.
Although I guess thats a mix between petite and hourglass.

there are hundreds of types missing.

it would be impossible for one person to do them all. that's why I stated in the description to mix and match to find the ones to suit your needs

you wouldn't have found my deviation if it wasn't for the forum that posted it that you commented on. I'm pointing out that it comes as no surprise you only find the two most idealized / perfect body types cute. because you clearly live in a world where anyone else is unattractive. actually kinda feel sorry for you. you must not see much beauty in your day-to-day life.

what do you expect saying stuff like you did and then coming to comment on a work by someone who thinks every body type is beautiful?

How could you say something so cruel about people who have nothing to do with you? Were you like, beaten up by a gang of fat kids as a child or something?

you know what...never mind I don't want to know your reasoning. I'm sure it's full of small minded hatred.

and I really hate to say that, your icon is so cute and so is your art. it has potential.

but cute things can be ruined by bigotry.

She's NOT a bitch, she is clearly making a statement about life and if you'd just LISTEN then you'd know. She's just clearly pointing out that for some reason you hate fat people, which is wrong in itself. We all deserve respect. And, she was saying that it's not surprising and kinda rude to come on to a deviation posted by a woman who loves and appreciates all body types and say you love the two skinniest ones.

Next time, just listen.

Next time you make one of these (if you ever do) you should make a "square" girl... Girls like me who are not broad shouldered but barely have any hips and no waist definition... Kindof like the petite just a thicker body overall... I mean of course it is your drawing style but I thought I'd give you a tip

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

Candy2021 In reply to mydevilshalo [2013-09-28 12:16:52 +0000 UTC]

I'll file that with the hundred other comments of people asking for that body type.

but it is literally I'm possible for me to draw every single type that humans come in, That is why I've suggested in the description for people to mix and match their own types.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

mydevilshalo In reply to Candy2021 [2013-10-11 03:51:05 +0000 UTC]

I understand that it is impossible to include everything, I was just trying to give a suggestion is all.

I never see anybody ask for that body type so I just thought I'd try to suggest something new to you, you don't need to respond like I'm some annoying person who is berating you complaining you didn't include me in your body chart and that you HAVE to do as I say.

I hope next time somebody gives you a suggestion and it annoys you, either ignore it, or politely say thanks with a smile and not make the person who is trying to give you constructive criticism and be helpful to you and give advice make them feel like garbage for it.

I'm a little offended that my suggestion to you has been "filed" (a nice way of saying tossed aside for garbage) with the "hundred of other comments" (meaning mine is unimportant and a waste of time/breath/hands however u want to call it).

I'm sure you'll just brush me off again, but I hope you can learn to appreciate when somebody tries to give you advice. You are posting on an art website and allowing comments. If I feel like I can give you a helpful tip, I will do so. If you don't care for it, then ignore me, don't make me feel like crap for trying to help a fellow artist in the same way I'd want somebody to help me.

Candy2021 In reply to mydevilshalo [2013-10-11 12:27:11 +0000 UTC]

Did you read all  1,417 comments to know if that type has been requested? Because it has. To the point or redundancy.

But don't tone police me. The absence of niceness is not rudeness. I gave you text, toneless emotionless text- to interpret as you so desire. If you want to read all of that into the two sentences I gave you I can't really stop you. But it's also not your place to tell someone else how to behave.  If I gave you a responce like "HOW DARE YOU! suggest to ME! This is an outrage OMGWTFBQQ!!!111111!!ONE!!!!1ELEVEN!." Then yes, I could understand your frustration.

And I hope you can understand mine, this is not constructive criticism. This is you telling me something I have literally been told over and over for 2 years when It is even in the description that I can't possibly include everyone- which should tell you that I'm aware not every type is on here, hence why I said to mix and match to find one to suit your needs. I am just one person I can't do them all. Your comment telling me to do something that not only hundreds of others have said before you and I mention in the description is the equivalent of someone drawing a Power Puff girls fan art and putting in the description how they aren't fond of Bubbles so they did not include her but then every comment they get is "why didn't you include Bubbles!?"

Don't assume every artist has the luxury of oodles of time to sit at their computer and have 5 page long debates with every random person who feels like they deserve their time. So if you feel "brushed off" it's not a stretch to think it's for a good reason. But based on your logic replying to you with less than detached fake politeness is rude...and I feel, ignoring someone is rude- so I didn't. So you seem to have put me in a no win situation.

I'm not responsible for other peoples self esteem, it's not my job to make sure everyone feels super rad. So if you "feel like garbage" based on one comment from someone you don't know that was not particularly nice or mean it sounds to me like a personal problem.

If you really wanted to be constructive or helpful you'd have commented on the male body type chart which is in dire need of an update and since I have not drawn it yet has room for improvement. But I don't think you read anything I or anyone else said on this piece and just commented with what first came to mind and I can't think of anything more "annoying" to an artist than having their description ignored and then questions asked that are answered in the description.

So my apologies if I don't sound a way you like. This conversation would be vastly differnt if we were spoekaing face to face, but we're not so we got to make do with what we have. would it make you feel better if I put in a bunch of smiley face emoticons? would the text then look happier and more receptive? It wouldn't make me feel any better, I'd feel fake as hell. So again...don't tone police me...or anybody really. that is kind of rude.

If you feel so inclined to psychoanalyze this comment and give me back another novel, I will let you know straight up that I will not read it, I'm a busy person, with full time college, a job, a boyfriend. a family and a life. And I don't really have a ton of free time and the precious free time I do have could be better spent like on my art. So I hope you feel less "ignored" now that I've spent about 30-45 minutes getting back to you. But I won't do it again, So feel free to read into that what you will.

mydevilshalo In reply to Candy2021 [2013-10-12 00:07:58 +0000 UTC]

I didn't ask you to waste so much of your oh so PRECIOUS time, and whether you agree my attempt at trying to give advice to a fellow artist was constructive criticism or not is a mute point. If you don't have a TON of free time then ignore me, I really don't care.

If you were so busy then you shouldn't have taken the time to respond to my comment in the first place.

I never said you HAD to draw the body type I suggested, it was merely a suggestion, take it as you will.

I think it's a personal problem of yours that you are so fed up with people who want to help you and give suggestions that you have to lash out at a total stranger in a comment as if I am freaking out or somehow offended that you didn't draw my body type.

I'm only offended by the way you reacted when I was trying to be friendly and helpful. I could care less whether you do what I suggest or not.

And I don't know why you bring some random male body type chart into this conversation, because I didn't even know you drew one. I'm so glad you think you're so special that I have oodles of time to sit at my computer and stare at every one of your art pieces going through your entire gallery to be awed by your artwork. And even if I HAD seen the male type chart, I wouldn't have given a suggestion, because I can't draw mens body types nor do I know all the different kinds because I don't stare at guys every time one walks by.

I read your description but I clearly misunderstood what you said - that does not mean I didn't read it - you talk about not assuming things of other people, while you do it yourself. Practice what you preach.

Oh and since we're going to play the "poor me, look how busy I am" game,

I get to miss out on college because i cant afford it, work 2 jobs, a long distance boyfriend, friends and family and a life myself.

You're not special, so don't act like it.

And I'm glad you won't respond to this, because I'm tired of argueing with such a pathetic person that they never learned how to appreciate when someone tries to help them.

Good luck in your endeavors of your so-busy life.

my reaction to this is.......cool and very nice design work. Now my comment to everyone here is..... Accept who u r or change. I believe that our bodies r unique and important however if u want to change it u can. If u want to be skinny then start popping diet pills or smoothies and exercise some, if that doesn't work then liposuction ( medically speaking as a last resort of course). If u want to be fat then sit watch tv and start eating like today is the last and u got nothing better to do. Also i believe that as very- (insert 1000 more very s here) complex our bodies r they can only work within the limits YOU set and give it. however my last belief is that a BODY can be fixed and/or replaced (to an extent), if u lose an arm get a new one, if u lose a leg get a new one, gentalmen if u lose the dangly bits get a sex change, women if u lose...........(insert brain fart here).... ok I got nothing good sprite and insanity can only take me so far. Bottom line is be happy with who u r if not then do something about it... P.S this pic inspired me to start going to the gym now. P.S.S My name is James (cant say my last name for legal resons) im a guy and im 21. "Don't judge, don't speculate, simply manipulate."
