Gradient bands can be reduced or removed in GIMP by adding noise, then selective blur. Hopefully this won't be necessary when 2.10 is released, with higher bit-depth supportRelated content

Good stuff. This will be useful at work with different software as well. Same principles apply, esp with newsprint.

I'm using Debian unstable, and have compiled GIMP-2.9, so I have higher bit support now

i'll download and compile it, and if i find it stable enough i'll replace 2.8 with it
