I decided to try my hand at actually making something instead of just doing traced vectors. This took a long time, but I'm satisfied with how it turned out.
Wonderbolts versus Shadowbolts! Pick your side. They can't both be the greatest aerial team in Equestria...

What ~Ziblink said. I suggest looking at the Dogfights episode "Night Fighters," and it shows how flying at night is much more challenging than in the day.
