When it comes to drawing anything new in the past several months, I suppose this counts.

This is (supposed to be) Ramona Flowers for Bryan Lee O'Malley's RamonaStyle Tumblr contest. You had to draw Ramona in your own personal style while giving her a new outfit in the process.

I tried to go with a "badass" approach with this, but the design and color scheme pretty much ended up all over the place. I love color and basically wanted to keep that aspect strong while remaining true to her typical design elements, such as the use of stars. I hope I at least succeeded in that. I realize there are some things I still need to work on, such as the legs being too long and the head being too large, making her look younger than usual.

But, really, entering this contest was mostly to prove that my style has developed into something that I can truly call my own. I first read through the Scott Pilgrim series in the summer of 2011, and I loved it so much that it absolutely DOMINATED my style ever since, to the point where I couldn't break free of it until recently. Being able to draw a character from that very series in my own, personal style is kind of a personal triumph for me, heh.

And, no, I didn't win. But I'm sure I'll be more than prepared for the next contest now.
