Description The Bonaventure Class Cruiser, is from Star Trek: The Animated Series. And was used as the testbed for the early Dilithium based Warp Drive. Though Warp Drive had been around awhile, this was supposed to be the first to use the more powerful, and efficiant Dilithium Crystals. As opposed to the earlier, nuclear and Lithium based drives.

Based on this ship, I came up with a whole new universe called the Cutieverse. All ships in the Cutieverse are supposed to be tiny and cute.

Interesting. Don't know that I'd call this ship cute. But, kewl.

Such a strange Registry placement.

You mean the "NCC" being after the numbers? Could be showing it's an experimental ship. As the NX designation, had yet to be used, in any "Star Trek" series.

The remark "Why does this need a shuttle bay" amuses me some. Especially back in the TOS/TAS time when nothing else existed it's debatable just how new transporter tech was. Kirk and crew were comfortable with it, but who's to say just twenty years before that if transporters even existed? Frankly I rather like the idea that if you jumped back to the time between 2200 and 2240 you have no transporters, or at the very least, they're only available in a limited form on the cream of the crop starships.Β

If it's an experimental ship, why isn't designated "NX"?

Here is a better question, Why does second Defiant use NX instead of NCC. She was the ex Sao Paulo, a regular production ship and no clocking device. She should b NCC- 7**** no longer NX- 7****

SpiderTrekfan616 In reply to pete8680 [2015-05-13 03:28:50 +0000 UTC]

In Continuity, I'd say it's because Starfleet planned on making it the NX-74205-A after the Dominion War ended, not to mention the Defiant is unique for being the only Federation starship to legally operate a cloaking device.

hold on a sec? the second defiant haves a cloak?

SpiderTrekfan616 In reply to pete8680 [2015-05-13 22:19:45 +0000 UTC]

After the series yes, It's because the Romulans realize the strategic Β importance of the Defiant and so they permitted the installation of a cloaking device on the second Defiant.

Because, in the early 70s, when Star Trek: The Animated Series was out, Star Trek had yet to use NX on any ship.

Now that I see it, it almost looks like a Super Deformed basis from Manga/Anime, don't it?

why does an experimental ship have a shuttlebay?

πŸ‘: 0 ⏩: 1

captshade In reply to kargaroc586 [2010-02-18 08:40:45 +0000 UTC]

To get on and off the ship, in case you can't use the transporters. Which is definately a possability on an experimental starship. Power failures, transporter malfunctions, etc.

yep

only problem is that this is a constitution class, but mega-distorted

i guess they actively didn't want anything but the connie on the screen

Like your take on the USS Bonaventure, especially the spiel you got round that one rather nicely, I can still remember Scotty saying "...that's the old Bonaventure, she was our first Warp drive starship..." of something along those lines!

Impressive work throughout, keep it all up!

I have TAS on DVD; "look captain; there's the old Bonaventure. She was the first starship to have warp drive installed; she disappeared on her maiden voyage shortly afterwards."

I'm still trying to get a copy of TAS, HMV ordered a copy about a year back now, they are still waiting for delivery!!!

Thanks...Well, when the powers that be call two contradicting things cannon, you gotta try to make them fit.

I hope to start doing more up, as soon as I get my computer back up and running.

captshade In reply to davemetlesits [2008-04-23 20:25:30 +0000 UTC]

Yup...Used it as a decoy in the episode "The Practical Joker". That episode also has the TOS Enterprise with an experimental Holodeck called the Rec-Room (almost 15 years before TNG was made). While the Bonaventure was used in the last TAS episode "The Counter-Clock Incident". Which also had Commadore Robert April visiting the Enterprise.
