Description
The Discovery Class Cruiser is an Axanar/Baton Rouge era design, by me. As an attempt to bring the STD design to the Prime Universe.Related content

Honestly I never liked that aspect. Felt too much like they'd stuck a Stargate onto the thing instead of an actual saucer. I thought that the first design they showed us in 2016 was better, even if it looked rubbish...
What do you think about my take on it?

Yeah, neither of the secondary hulls that CBS showed us really struck me as ideal. I figured something between the regular style and that would look better in keeping within the design styles and aesthetics style. Thanks anyway though, lol

Nice ship Shade, I like what you have done with it. But I still do not like the ship they came up with. And I just can not get into a show where next generation technology comes before Kirk's time just throws the whole show down the drain for me....Don't get me wrong I gave it a chance, but it ultimately lost me Β

No worries. I'm not a fan, either. I just tried to make sense of the design.

I find it funny that everyone is upset over the design of the Discovery, but fact is, she's a rethinking of a piece of concept art from The Motion Picture.

Why not set it in the TMP Era?

Still, I have to admit I am a fan of both the TOS and TMP era Enterprise, but when I first saw Discoprise, I just fell in love with the design. Mostly because the design is that perfect bridge between the TOS and TMP eras, integrating elements of both designs.Β

Facepalm, seriously? They seriously believe that Discovery is apart of JJverse? For fuck's sake, the aesthetic is completely wrong for it.

I don't differentiate between Canon and non Canon. To make a tale endearing you should just write stories.

Good mythos requires old pre-Captial ways of thinking.

I genuinely liked the teaser trailer version of the ship that they experimentally floated past us when the title of the series was announced; that was the ONE THING they got right in this whole hurricane disaster of a show. www.youtube.com/watch?v=bqm9HS⦠It was mysterious and almost sinister, it was unconventional, it looked like it have been built in the wake of a war, it was a serious Starfleet vessel, it looked like it incorporated several technologies from other races (friend or foe), the music was unrecognizably alien, and it looked bad ass enough to actually stand toe-to-toe with the good ol' TOS Enterprise herself!
The final version had boring-ass boxy nacelles and weird-ass rings (10pts if you hit the bull's eye in the center), and a giant glass window.Β

I have a love/hate relationship with discovery... The ship would be better suited for civilian use NOT Military... The main hull could be badly compromisedΒ with a fairly aimed Torp hit. ant their goes your saucer...
But all in all, great work coming from captshade. ^_^

I like this. It really does re-join the lineage with this take on it.
I'd love to see your take on an original Crossfield variant without the central gaps. In my mind, the Discovery and Glenn had the saucer rebuilt to handle the jump drive and the Crossfieldshad much more internal volume with a full saucer.

Very nice design.Β This one and MadkoiFish's designs for Discovery are both excellent and far better in concept and aesthetic than the official Ralph McQuarrie design in STD.

Err... Discovery is from the main timeline.
Look, I understand that some are upset about the design but you can just call it a redesign and leave it at that.

A friend pointed out that my drawing of the Baton Rouge looked like the Discovery, and I thought even more so, with the Axanar version. So I did it up, in Axanar style.

i get what you are saying as the Rouge does have some similarites to the Discovery just with alterations.
