I naturally spend a lot of time out under the stars around my local area and I am very familiar with a lot of the features of the night sky- so it always fascinates me when I go to Tasmania just how much higher in the sky something like the Southern Cross is and how the central bulge of the Milky Way, instead of being straight overhead at this time of the year and night from home, is a lot further to the north.
I took the opportunity of a brief window in the clouds during the large aurora display on the 15th of August to do a vertical panorama to try to catch the central bulge of the MW with limited success.
Six image panorama. Canon 6D, 14mm, F/2.8, ISO 3200, 6 X 30 seconds
