Aurora Australis and a Burning Tree, Tasmania, 19/20th of May, 2013

On the way to the location where I shot my images "Tranquility" and "Iris" we came across this tree burning in the middle of a field. We took some photos of it under the moonlight and then continued on. After the fog forced us to leave Oatlands we came back to the tree but by this time the moon had set to reveal the aurora in all its beauty. Foreground is lit from the lights of a passing truck.

Also, were you able to get any shots of the super moon we had recently? Been cloudy here, so I have no idea when it was actually out.

Thank you so much The whole "Super Moon" thing is much over hyped. It's the difference between a 15 inch pizza and a 16 inch pizza. The moon is that close to earth (and thus that big) every single month, it just doesn't always coincide with the full phase. You don't hear of a Super Crescent do you. To answer your question, No I didn't.

Ah ok, damn, that is kind of disappointing, I always thought a supermoon was more "super" hehe. Now I know better
