On the way to the location where I shot my images "Tranquility" and "Iris" we came across this tree burning in the middle of a field. We took some photos of it under the moonlight and then continued on. After the fog forced us to leave Oatlands we came back to the tree but by this time the moon had set to reveal the aurora in all its beauty. Foreground is lit from the lights of a passing truck.

That's a passing truck? Looks almost like an explosion, works very nicely though.

No, No. That is the burning tree. The passing truck is only providing the subtle lighting of the foreground grass. Thanks

Wow, now isn't that beautiful . This is what I mean about your shots.
You seem to come across these beautiful scenes so often.
"we came across this tree burning in the middle of a field". o.O
WHAT?! Who randomly comes across that every day? xd.
I love the colours of this once, very nicely done as always, however I think that the milky way isn't as good quality as some of your other ones .

Amazing picture!
What camera do you use for capturing the sky? I have an EOS 650D and my pictures never turn out that well.

Just a stunning scene to capture, Greg...Surreal with the burning tree, Aurora and Celestial beauty. I think this one deserves a nice big printing on metal
So...these 'burning trees' are common in Tasmania? Are we talking spontaneous combustion here? Thanks for the info as should I ever find myself in the wilds of Tasmania I will remember not to lean up against any trees! Be like lighting a can of Crisco shortening on fire!
Sorry, my friend--just the way I read your comments made me think of all that.

Thank you so much John I think that the farmer just wanted to get rid of it out of his field.
