CapturingTheNight In reply to princevlad39 [2012-06-14 08:25:51 +0000 UTC]

Thank you You will need a H-alpha solar filter to get this sort of detail. A basic white light filter will only show sunspots.

HaHa. Mr Picky. Ok, I'll admit that yes it isn't quite 3rd contact. I would have loved two PSTs and cameras going at this moment. I was imaging at 16mm on the EP all day for my timelapse images and I wanted to zoom in and do a close up like this. So I had to quickly change to 8mm, refocus, snap off the 50 shots that went into this and then quickly change back to 16mm refocus and start imaging again to get the final proper 3rd contact shot for the timelapse. One of the most intense imaging sessions I have ever had.

Just teasing Greg, wonderfull image and work. I so wish that I had an HA scope to try and image through. I have tried to image at prime with our clubs PST and know that it is not an easy task. With changing EP's and refocusing(and still catching the action) I believe you when you say it was intense.

I never could get the focal plane of the PST far enough back to hit the DSLR sensor just using a Tring and 1.25" adapter. I tried putting a barlow lens on the end but that didn't work. I have heard a powermate works but I only have a 2" powermate so I have not tired that. The only way I could do it was to buy the Baader Hyperion Mk III 8-24mm EP which has a thread under the eyerest that with the aid of a T2-M42 thread adapter can screw straight into the Cameras T-ring. This eyepiece projection method gets the image far enough back to hit the sensor.
