Description Wolverine & Jubilee circa 1993. Well. Mostly.

I love Jubilee. Such an underrated character. Mainly due to the fact that she was annoying as hell at the time but in hindsight she was a lovely breath of fresh air in the X-Men team...

Not as goody-goody as Kitty and not as day-time-TV as Angel Salvatore. She was a child of the times and a fantastic side-kick for Logan.

Also of note. The Sentinel. It's based entirely upon Jack Kirby's original cover for X-Men 14 [link] .

I love Kirby's Sentinels and don't think they've ever been bettered. They're one of his classic 'Big Head' designs like Galactus and MODOCK. The only artist who came close was Frank Quitely with his take on Master Mold [link]

My take on Wolverine here is probably the most traditional I've done in a few years. He even has his signature mask here although it's hanging from his collar down his back.

I did my usual thing of adding a few seems and zips here n there to make his uniform look more like tough leather rather than Lycra.

I went about his burns in a similar way to Movie Logan with a more trim hair do.

Don't know why I put in the New X-Men logo. Just like it and felt that this was a point where the X-Men felt quite fresh and new too.

I'm quite surprised that Morrison didn't use Jubilee, actually. She seems like the kind of character he loves writing.

Work is Fountain Pen on Bristol Board with colour in Photoshop 7.

This is just magical. I really love the X-Men X that is Logan's zipper, that little detail really makes me smile.

And I really love how you've portayed Jubilee here, it's fantastic! Just her coat, her expression and hte paf is just gorgeous. You captured her personality extremly well.

And I really enjoy your sentinal, a lot

Cheers for that. I love adding little details for my own shits-n-giggles. I based Wolverine upon my own grumpy self here and Jubilee is just how I think she should look. early 90's fashions are making a big resurgence and I hope Jubilee is one of them. But I think that kinda shows with Wolverine's new kinda sidekick, Armour.

I just love when artists add their own little quirks, really brings life to their art, especially what you've done here.
I'm really happy about 90's fashion making a resurgence, mainly because I love colors. Unfortunatly I don't really follow the comics at the moment, I'd love to, but I just have no idea where to start honestly, sicne there are so many and the universe so large, so I'll take your word on Armour.

I haven't read the comics in a few years now, but I'm just going on what I've seen in internet previews. Cheers for your comments. I really appreciate it. And in regards to late 80's/early 90's fashion, I'm wearing fluorescent pink, blue and orange skull socks [link] today. Ha.

I hear that. I was browsing some comics at my local shop, and I ran into Jubilee's first appearance, so I bought it! She was my first "celebrity crush". Seems kinda weird now that I look back on it, but I was in 6th grade

She was a perfect 90 archetype. Crass, brightly coloured and capitalist. I loved her in the Jim Lee run and when she appeared in the Silvestri drawn Wolverine books.

This is pretty sweet. I hated the way they just let Jubilee fade away until they took her powers away. Then they bring her back in New Warriors and now she's gone again. I keep HOPING they'll bring her back some how but I don't see it any time soon.

When they started the Wolverine First Class book I was really hoping for him & Jubilee but it was Kitty instead. Disappointed..

I've not read the books in the past couple of years (it was all down hill when Morrison left) so I don't really know what happened with the character.

I'd read about her losing her powers in Wolverine Origins but she was pretty much tossed to the side in that story. Very poor form.

CarlPearce In reply to GhostPockets [2009-09-09 13:04:24 +0000 UTC]

That's the third issue of that story arc. It starts with Wolverine on fire on top of a Sentinel going ape-shit and tearing it's head up while Cyclops blasts a hole through it saying "You can probably stop doing that now, Logan"

CarlPearce In reply to EvanBryce [2009-09-07 13:38:42 +0000 UTC]

Too right. They should lighten up the Wolverine book and just have it as Wolverine with Jubilee as his side-kick getting into international adventures and all kinds of mischief. Ace.

Cheers for the comments, Evan. Much appreciated.

See, I would BUY that! But they take things way too seriously now, the crazy hijinks of old have been a thing of the past...but who knows, maybe Disney will bring back some fun?

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CarlPearce In reply to EvanBryce [2009-09-08 08:33:49 +0000 UTC]

I dunno. I think Disney will be in it for the cash only and they'd probably take a backseat in anything creative. They're probably thinkin' movies only.

aw, jubilee the mallrat. i agree, deep down we all cared for that razzle dazzle-girl. your version's very stylish, i hint a little noodle from gorillaz and also a little from ramon perez "kukuburi".

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

CarlPearce In reply to kaffepanna [2009-09-06 20:04:11 +0000 UTC]

Cheers for the comment. I didn't think about Noodle, to be honest and I have no idea who Ramon Perez is or what a Kukuburi is. I was picturing that whole scene from Terminator 2 with Connor in the mall, and, oddly, the movies Airheads and California Man.

Her glasses were taken from a fashion mag, her hair and band from something I saw on Getty images, her jacket is a reverse New X-Men jacket. The rest is traditional I think.

Logan was little more straight forward and probably the most traditional version I've done of him in a long while.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

kaffepanna In reply to CarlPearce [2009-09-06 20:17:43 +0000 UTC]

cool, i think i see noodle because of the baggy jacket (i want it, dammit!) and that casual "i-don't-even-have-to-look-at-you" style of hers. and i can only advice you to check out "kukuburi", it's a really decent webbcomic and the main character looks a lot like your jubilation lee.
logan feels really classic, sometimes it's good to back to the origins and basics of things. otherwise you never know where you wind up.
so, tell me, will there be more x-guys and gals from you in the near future, hm...?
