Description
PLEASE FULL VIEW!(Scroll to the right half.)
Maybe one day when I'm crazy enough, I'll make a tutorial on the left half of that picture.
HOLY FREAK THIS TOOK WAY TOO LONG. I thought I'd take a nice, relaxing break from my chaotic Anime Expo preparations and have a go at my first tutorial, but nooooooo...this thing is more stressful than an actual drawing.
But seeing that I'm a PS newbie, I'm pretty glad that I was able to at least compile all this together. I guess I picked up some bits of Photoshop knowledge over the year after all. Would be sad if I didn't.
People have been asking me to do a tutorial for a long time now, and I apologize for taking next to forever to get around to it
Compressing 15 painful hours of sweat, cursing, and flinging objects into a 670×7637 pixel tutorial is no easy task. I'm kind of sad that I had to cut like 30 pictures (about 8 steps) off from the walk through. The thing is flippin' ginormous as it is, so I couldn't make it even larger D: And excuse my random doodles. I went a little nuts on the commentary too -_-;;
This is a thank-you gift for all of my watchers and friends online, and hopefully it'll be of some use to those of you who are starting out with markers :>
FAQ's
You can get Copics at local art stores (if you're lucky), and definitely online. Aside from a Japanese bookstore I go to, Kinokuniya, I also order them from online at [link] . THEY ARE NOT CHEAP. They can cost from $4.50 to $6.50 each, so shop smart :>
Manga manuscript, A4 size; I prefer Copic and Manga University brand. You can find these online too.
Lots of trial and error and lots of practice.
EDIT:
Um...holy crap. Another DD?! I never even dreamed of getting the first one. Thank you =AdigunPolack for your suggestion and kind words, and ^znow-white for featuring it! I appreciate it very much!

This is one of the most helpful tutorials I've ever seen o_o
I have a nooby question though xD;
How do you get the little white outlines around the words/instructions in your tutorial? I can't seem to find out ._.;

Sorry for the late reply, but you just right click on the text layer > layer options (or whatever the second option bar is) > Stroke. You can adjust the pixels, which is basically how thick or thin the outline around the word is. You can also change the colors of the outline

Thank you very much C: It was "blending options" for the second option but I figured it out.

when your working with lighter colours like on the skin, is there a blender or a smudger that helps the colours spread around the picture??
cause i got some copic markers for x-mas and i just tried them today for a project, and i can seem to make the colours lighter. and i was wondering if there a smudger that can do that.

Sorry for the late reply, but there is a thing called Copic colorless blender. It's just a marker that has no color. If you put down a layer of that before another color, it'll help the colors blend better and reduce streak markers.
Good luck

Huzzah! Thanks for this great tutorial - I got a Copic set for Xmas from my in-laws and I've been a bit nervous to try them. I'm not much of a traditional media person.
I prefer walk-throughs to normal how-tos, anyway - I like to see what other people do, and you learn all sorts of nifty tricks. ^_~
Off to read the second tutorial!

Delicious job! I just payed for a set of 12, and I'm getting them in a few days.
A question...are these pens hard to use? Also, would it be fine if I used normal print paper instead of special paper? Will it be worse if I use print paper?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
cartoongirl7 In reply to popplenator [2008-12-11 10:01:10 +0000 UTC]
Markers aren't hard once you get a hang of them, but the 12 set is a very small set and you most likely won't have all the colors you need. It should be fine if you're just trying them out though.
Normal printer paper works just great. It bleeds a tiny bit, but nothing unmanageable
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
popplenator In reply to cartoongirl7 [2008-12-11 10:12:44 +0000 UTC]
I would think they would be minimal. I'm thinking of getting most colours over time. What colours are in the 12 set? They are so pricey, I was very surprised to hear them being in the $80.
Well that's ok, I thought it would be, like totally see through on the other side.
Just asking (from what I've seen) Many colours are almost identical, would buying them be a waste, or are they good to use for a reason?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
cartoongirl7 In reply to popplenator [2008-12-11 18:17:12 +0000 UTC]
Hahha yeah, Copics are always very expensive. But $80 for 12 markers sounds way overboard though. If you're planning to get them online, I'd recommend checking this site out: [link] . You can get them for nearly half of that price there
I believe the normal 12 pack comes with the primary plus secondary colors, so basically you get the colors of the rainbow :>
And yeah, there's quite a few colors that are VERY similar. There's really no point in getting anything that close in color, so I always check before I buy new markers.
