Maybe one day when I'm crazy enough, I'll make a tutorial on the left half of that picture.

Copic Tutorial II: [link]

HOLY FREAK THIS TOOK WAY TOO LONG. I thought I'd take a nice, relaxing break from my chaotic Anime Expo preparations and have a go at my first tutorial, but nooooooo...this thing is more stressful than an actual drawing.

But seeing that I'm a PS newbie, I'm pretty glad that I was able to at least compile all this together. I guess I picked up some bits of Photoshop knowledge over the year after all. Would be sad if I didn't.

People have been asking me to do a tutorial for a long time now, and I apologize for taking next to forever to get around to it The thought of making a tutorial always intimidated me since I have like 234012938 WIP pictures to choose from. But I finally got it done

Compressing 15 painful hours of sweat, cursing, and flinging objects into a 670×7637 pixel tutorial is no easy task. I'm kind of sad that I had to cut like 30 pictures (about 8 steps) off from the walk through. The thing is flippin' ginormous as it is, so I couldn't make it even larger D: And excuse my random doodles. I went a little nuts on the commentary too -_-;;

This is a thank-you gift for all of my watchers and friends online, and hopefully it'll be of some use to those of you who are starting out with markers :>

FAQ's
"Where do you get those markers? How much are they?!"
You can get Copics at local art stores (if you're lucky), and definitely online. Aside from a Japanese bookstore I go to, Kinokuniya, I also order them from online at [link] . THEY ARE NOT CHEAP. They can cost from $4.50 to $6.50 each, so shop smart :>

"What paper do you use?"
Manga manuscript, A4 size; I prefer Copic and Manga University brand. You can find these online too.

"How did you learn to draw like this?"
Lots of trial and error and lots of practice.

EDIT:
Um...holy crap. Another DD?! I never even dreamed of getting the first one. Thank you =AdigunPolack for your suggestion and kind words, and ^znow-white for featuring it! I appreciate it very much!

Yeah, I thought so too. They're around $9 dollars from where I get them. I can't actually get them Online, including the site you webbed to me, since no sites ship to Australia.

Well, that works for me, I won't need any other colours for a while yet (except for maybe skin tones)

Yes..and there are so many colours out there. in the 300s are something. Are the colours called by any particular name/number?

Thanks for all the help~

Oh, that sucks. Not a lot of sites offer international shipping :/ Buuut, you can maybe try [link] ? If I remember right, that site does offer international shipping, I think.

There's over 300 some colors, and each of them has a number (ex: R24, where R stands for red) as well as a name (ex: Fruit Pink, Olive, etc). I've posted a chart of the colors I have in my gallery along with my recommendations, so you can take a look at that if you're interested.

Welcome! I'm glad to help

No offence, but you Americans get everything . but I'm glad I can even find them in Australia. I think I might just stick to buying them from where I do, since I don't trust sites that don't let you pay by Paypal. Thanks, though~!

That's a lot, I must say. I think I might look at that colour chart, since your pictures seem to turn out nice~! ....Which type do you use? Like do you use sketch, original or ciao? Do they have differences?

I'm probably never going to ever get any copic markers. But my friend has a whole bunch of them.
BUT if I ever do get any, and if my friend ever lets me use hers again, I'm just going to save this just in case ^^

Hi your art is really pretty and amazing. I never really thought how copic markers make your drawings better. It's really interesting how you can blend the colors together. Well, i'm trying to get some of my own too but I can't find them in any art stores. Do you know where I can purchase them by hand? Or where I can get them in a discounted price? Plz help me TT I would really appreciate it if you did.^^

Is there any good website where I could order those copic markers? I hate that they don't sell them here, so I'm not able to buy them even if I have the money. They only sell some good-for-nothing thin markers in small sets that kids buy for school -.- Same goes for colored pencils.

This is really helpful, I'll definately come back to it when I own more that 4 copics aha

If you actually reply, i'd like to know how you go about colouring large areas without having the ink dry to fast, and having uneven colours.? :S

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cartoongirl7 In reply to HotaruKitty [2008-11-13 05:12:15 +0000 UTC]

There's really no other way besides working fast and color the large area before the ink dries. The faster you color, the less likely for it to leave streak marks.

Also, it helps if you put down a layer of Colorless Blender before you color the area. It keeps the paper wet for a longer period of time.

What type of marker do you advise to buy, when you just start colouring? Also, what are the (other) tools needed to use the Copics, and What's the difference between Marker and Sketch?
BTW, did you immediatly start coloring, or just black an' white at first?

Thanks for the tutorial. =3
