Maybe one day when I'm crazy enough, I'll make a tutorial on the left half of that picture.
HOLY FREAK THIS TOOK WAY TOO LONG. I thought I'd take a nice, relaxing break from my chaotic Anime Expo preparations and have a go at my first tutorial, but nooooooo...this thing is more stressful than an actual drawing.
But seeing that I'm a PS newbie, I'm pretty glad that I was able to at least compile all this together. I guess I picked up some bits of Photoshop knowledge over the year after all. Would be sad if I didn't.
People have been asking me to do a tutorial for a long time now, and I apologize for taking next to forever to get around to it
Compressing 15 painful hours of sweat, cursing, and flinging objects into a 670×7637 pixel tutorial is no easy task. I'm kind of sad that I had to cut like 30 pictures (about 8 steps) off from the walk through. The thing is flippin' ginormous as it is, so I couldn't make it even larger D: And excuse my random doodles. I went a little nuts on the commentary too -_-;;
This is a thank-you gift for all of my watchers and friends online, and hopefully it'll be of some use to those of you who are starting out with markers :>
FAQ's
You can get Copics at local art stores (if you're lucky), and definitely online. Aside from a Japanese bookstore I go to, Kinokuniya, I also order them from online at [link] . THEY ARE NOT CHEAP. They can cost from $4.50 to $6.50 each, so shop smart :>
Manga manuscript, A4 size; I prefer Copic and Manga University brand. You can find these online too.
Lots of trial and error and lots of practice.
EDIT:
Um...holy crap. Another DD?! I never even dreamed of getting the first one. Thank you =AdigunPolack for your suggestion and kind words, and ^znow-white for featuring it! I appreciate it very much!

Sadly... I'm one of those "lucky people" with a local shop that sells copics... the problem is that I'm too scared to drive there. D: One-way streets are evil.

I have one question when you start inking do you trace on a different the paper? Because one is a white colour and the other is a yellowish colour.
Great tutorial ^^

ajmadee In reply to Yura-chan [2008-10-05 00:16:17 +0000 UTC]
I think it was the different lighting in each picture... in the commentary it said "erase carefully after inking" and that she's crinkled paper many times from erasing "ferociously.."

Yura-chan In reply to ajmadee [2008-10-13 21:15:07 +0000 UTC]
true, but she could trace with pencil then ink, but your probably right ^^ thank you for answer my question

If you can find a store close to you and don't mind if you have to drive far, then you can buy them from a store. A good locater if you live in the US could be found on [link]
otherwise, you'll have to buy online. I buy from [link] using money orders (checks that you buy using the amount of cash that you have to send and an extra fee).

did u get the book from the same place like how to draw the manga books, and where can i find the paper?? will any art paper do the trick like sketch book paper?
👍: 0 ⏩: 1
ajmadee In reply to JadaGraphix [2008-10-05 01:34:31 +0000 UTC]
Uhm... I personally don't feel that any paper will do, I've gotten copic sketch markers recently, and I've discovered that using sketch paper means that the copic colors will bleed a LOT if you use paper and won't blend as well... but I suppose it's always to the preference of the artist. if you want to use any type of paper you want, go for it.

Hmmm.....You said at the beginning that you use copics and prismacolor markers. As a prismacolor user myself, I'm just wondering--do you personally use prismas the same way as copics? They have a much smaller brush, so large areas are hard... >.>

Happytreefriends7I,
Its actually quite easy to draw people. Never think it's hard, it just takes a lot of practice like BurningRoses says. It's like drawing an apple or a car, it's basically all shapes... for example. the head is an oval, the thigh is a narrow rectangle.....draw what you see. observe.
You can read up on a bunch of tutorials how to draw people or how to draw the human anatomy 100 different ways but the best way really is to practice on your own and then eventually you'll see how the human body is structured.
Buy a magazine and draw the people in it... draw the people around you...
I used to be really into Marvel/Wildstorm comic books when I was younger and I would actually copy the drawings from the comic books for practice. haha. They weren't really good but it helped me see how professional illustrators drew people. My favorite comic book artist then and still now is Jim Lee, I think seeing how he drew helped me in some ways. I even drew a lot of anime as well (sailormoon, ranma... etc.) Then eventually I start drawing more realistically, like portraits...
By what I see on your deviantart page, you already got the talent. if you intend on drawing people keep practicing... don't get frustrated. Pretty soon you'll draw like a pro.

And this is how i'm now able to draw due to a lot of practice -> [link]
(I'm 15 right now)
So yeah... it takes time.. but i'm sure you'll be able to do it..
