Description
PLEASE FULL VIEW!(Scroll to the right half.)
Maybe one day when I'm crazy enough, I'll make a tutorial on the left half of that picture.
HOLY FREAK THIS TOOK WAY TOO LONG. I thought I'd take a nice, relaxing break from my chaotic Anime Expo preparations and have a go at my first tutorial, but nooooooo...this thing is more stressful than an actual drawing.
But seeing that I'm a PS newbie, I'm pretty glad that I was able to at least compile all this together. I guess I picked up some bits of Photoshop knowledge over the year after all. Would be sad if I didn't.
People have been asking me to do a tutorial for a long time now, and I apologize for taking next to forever to get around to it
Compressing 15 painful hours of sweat, cursing, and flinging objects into a 670×7637 pixel tutorial is no easy task. I'm kind of sad that I had to cut like 30 pictures (about 8 steps) off from the walk through. The thing is flippin' ginormous as it is, so I couldn't make it even larger D: And excuse my random doodles. I went a little nuts on the commentary too -_-;;
This is a thank-you gift for all of my watchers and friends online, and hopefully it'll be of some use to those of you who are starting out with markers :>
FAQ's
You can get Copics at local art stores (if you're lucky), and definitely online. Aside from a Japanese bookstore I go to, Kinokuniya, I also order them from online at [link] . THEY ARE NOT CHEAP. They can cost from $4.50 to $6.50 each, so shop smart :>
Manga manuscript, A4 size; I prefer Copic and Manga University brand. You can find these online too.
Lots of trial and error and lots of practice.
EDIT:
Um...holy crap. Another DD?! I never even dreamed of getting the first one. Thank you =AdigunPolack for your suggestion and kind words, and ^znow-white for featuring it! I appreciate it very much!

Kinda wanted to forward this from SuGaRLesSCaNdY
"Happytreefriends7I,
Its actually quite easy to draw people. Never think it's hard, it just takes a lot of practice like BurningRoses says. It's like drawing an apple or a car, it's basically all shapes... for example. the head is an oval, the thigh is a narrow rectangle.....draw what you see. observe.
You can read up on a bunch of tutorials how to draw people or how to draw the human anatomy 100 different ways but the best way really is to practice on your own and then eventually you'll see how the human body is structured.
Buy a magazine and draw the people in it... draw the people around you...
I used to be really into Marvel/Wildstorm comic books when I was younger and I would actually copy the drawings from the comic books for practice. haha. They weren't really good but it helped me see how professional illustrators drew people. My favorite comic book artist then and still now is Jim Lee, I think seeing how he drew helped me in some ways. I even drew a lot of anime as well (sailormoon, ranma... etc.) Then eventually I start drawing more realistically, like portraits...
By what I see on your deviantart page, you already got the talent. if you intend on drawing people keep practicing... don't get frustrated. Pretty soon you'll draw like a pro."

This is a great tutorial very easy to understand. I just purchase a set of copic markers this year and I'm still trying to teach myself to how use em'. I'm very amazed on how you color with them.
I would like to know where you can purchase this Manga University Manuscript paper? Is the paper translucent? Is the Copic Manuscript translucent as well?
I use Bienfang Graphics 360 at the moment for rendering and now I need a marker paper that is more thicker. Hope to hear from you soon! Ciao!

Here are a few questions i would love to ask you:
are all your markers one sided?
are all of them brushes?
do you have any 3 sided ones like Triart markers?
does your ink run out really fast?
will the ink dry out if you dont use them for, say, 3 mths?
please reply~ i have markers but i am worried about collecting more of them.

cartoongirl7 In reply to ChocolateRagdoll [2008-09-07 17:08:47 +0000 UTC]
All of Copics are double sided. I use Copic Sketch, which has one chiseled end and one brush end. I don't have any Triart markers, but I do used to use Prismacolor (which are also double sided, just no brush end).
The ink actually lasts for a pretty long time, but it depends on how often you use it. For example, I got my first set of markers two years ago and most of them are still working just fine. The ones I use the most (ie, skin tones and grey scale), I had to get a replacememnt for. The ink should not dry out as long as you keep them out of the sun.
Hope that helped

So I have a question, did you draw it strait onto the manga paper? Or did you sketch it out on something else first?

cartoongirl7 In reply to AzerathinPrincess [2008-09-05 00:50:05 +0000 UTC]
I make rough drafts on regular printer paper and then draw them again on manga manuscript

Thank you~
My friend just got me three copic markers, and they're all really dark..
but i still love the effects copics in general give off.
I'm not used to their tip though, do you have any tips to not let the ink err.. bleed into the image too far or anything?
If I ever get more copics, I'll be sure to try out the techniques in this tut.
Thanks again

cartoongirl7 In reply to Merokobunny [2008-08-27 18:36:00 +0000 UTC]
Regular printer paper would work just fine so if you don't want to spend extra money, you can just stick to that :>
I use manga manuscript paper (Copic and Manga University brand), which are sold online and at some Japanese bookstores if you have one near you. They come at about $5 for 20 pages or so

cartoongirl7 In reply to Skywayup [2008-08-27 17:47:36 +0000 UTC]
Nope, the Copic ink stays in place. It's kind of like dabbing white acrylic paint over the marker, except the gel pen ink is just slightly more watery. Don't worry about smearing- I've done it plenty of times and it's fine :>
