Description
This is one of my personal favourites, though I know a lot of people would not agree. This is one of those leaf thingamajigs that you get for scrapbooking - so it's kinda paper or thread - let's just say it's a leaf
This was then put onto a gift box (with a holographic covering) - so this created the different blues.
I love shallow depth of field, and so I used my macro lens on F2.8.
For me, this created a very airy effect - which is exactly what I wanted.

I never did find out what kind of leaves these were.
But great job.

it's my favourite lens
I think you must just try playing around with the lighting for different effects, and really use that aperture setting on your camera... Most people always use small apertures for their macro photos, but sometimes a wide aperture can really make a photo interesting...

my words!!!!
got the lens 6months ago and i'm STILL impressed by the quality and the precision of the focus!
and you're apsolutely right about the apertures!f2.8 is FUN...BUT often the subject gets TOO abstract and is no longer recognisable...^^ ([link] )
found that the pictures got the sharpest (tripod, mirror lockup) at f7.1 or f8... ([link] )
but playing with the dof is great too! [link]
rock on!

You're definitely right when you say sometimes a picture can become too abstract - but then I'd make it abstract purposefully and use the abstractness created by the shallow DoF to my advantage.
Distance between you and the subject and its background also plays a part in the DoF - so take that into account too.

I didn't want to take away from the abstractness of it.
It's a leaf.
