No, I just placed the drop on the feather, and then I used the self-timer on my camera (as I still haven't received the remote). Using the self-timer helps to prevent camera shake

thank you... I figured out the secret to great waterdrops on feathers... and it's not water
water just sinks in, but glycerine stays on top
