Description Edit:I NEVER SAID IN HERE THAT ANIME IS NOT ART, PLEASE STOP SPAMMING MY FRONT PAGE AND SENDING ME NOTES, ALL YOU'RE DOING IS MAKING YOURSELF LOOK LIKE A DUMB ASS BECAUSE I LAUGH AND CLICK THE X BUTTON EVERY TIME I SEE ONE, YOU ARE NOT EFFECTING ME WHAT SO EVER SO GIVE IT UP.

Read the description before you comment and make yourself look stupid.

Comments now enabled because I'm sick of my page being spammed with comments I could care less to read, realize that you posting a comment here does not mean I will read it or respond, I will likely not do either of the two.

Ok before you read this or flame me remember that this is MY OWN opinion and I am not in anyway trying to change yours.

I have NOTHING against anime at all, it is not my favorite but I do not hate it, in fact I do enjoy a few animes such as Wolf's Rain, Evangelion, Hellsing, Excel Saga, and a few more. HOWEVER I am SICK and TIRED of people saying "anime is the best!" "I love anime!" "look I can draw anime!" "anime is so original!" when no one is really saying bluntly that anime sucks and that it is not art. and then I go to the front page of DA and see nothing but huge eyed anime girls with balloon like breasts, nipples the size of salami slices, and slutty clothing with the letters "kya" sketched next to it. All these pieces look as if they were drawn by the same person. I am NOT at all saying anime is not a cool style, it is an awesome style if used properly.

You can look through my favorites and see many anime pictures by artists here on DA I enjoy. What bugs me is when people claim their anime has style opposed to any other anime. Anime is a vast area of art, they're cartoons. People who obsess over anime characters as if they were real need to get out more.

I think if more artist stopped looking at pictures of anime girls or whatever that other people drew and just basically tracing it, and began to develop their own style this place and the art community as a whole would be a lot better.

Also this does not by any means mean I enjoy dogs with huge ears, anime eyes, 'kawaii' features, hair, and the cartoon animal style a lot of people share. This stamp focuses on anime but it goes for all art that needs more stylizing.

Anime is style, it doesn't matter who you are if you like/draw anime you eventually create your own style of anime so your wrong anime is a varied atyle of art

i see what ur saying BUT anime artists do have their own style and they have worked hard to develop that style. Maybe you cant see the difference because you arent an anime artist. For example, you know how some people say that asians all look alike? Well they may look alike to other people but they can see the differences between their own people. ( Not being racist, just giving an example). But you are entitled to your own opinion.

Nice observation! it's amazing how far people will go to say that the manga/anime style is "unoriginal". either it's because they can't draw it themselves, or don't know GOOD anime. people take stereotypes like pokemon, DBZ, and all the other bad quality anime, trying to "prove their point".
so
i applaud you.

I used to draw stereotypical anime, but I've kinda decided I want to do something more realistic, (I haven't uploaded any of it yet) but I seem to be developing my own style, which is making me way happier than drawing anime ever did. 'course, that is just 'cause I like to be different.

I agree with ya. A friend and me are the most crazy anime fans you can meet but I don't draw it often. Ya it's easy but I think it's just a easy way to gain popularity. I prefer to do more realism which is hard but I know someday I can gain my own style. When a person draws anime, to me, they are copying a style. Don't get me wrong I love some anime artist, but it's just not the style to go with when drawing on your own. I could go on for days with this...so I'm shutting up now before I get a head of myself.

I understand and agree with the point you are trying to make, however, I don't think this stamp best illustrates that point.

You want people to venture beyond past what they may be trying to imitate, but that doesn't only cover "anime style". I think something more along the lines of "Try Style UNIQUE" would say what you want without being as offensive to single out people who draw with an anime style.

Even if YOU. HERE. explain what you mean, the button by itself does not, and people will not randomly read it with your definition in mind. It's sad, but they won't. XD;

Yeah, as a person who draws "anime styled", there are lots of others who use the style, but really don't push themselves, try to understand it, or caricature-ize it by only emphasizing what SEEMS to make it anime to them. That's really obnoxious, but I can't stop them, so I just ignore them. XD

Oh, and all the people who say anime is LAZY and whatever other insults, I ignore them too. :B I know what I do and how much work I put in it, and if people don't like it, then they're not the ones I'm marketing to. XD

anime has many variations of style within it that are all unique according to the artists. Granted, there are a few particular styles that seem extremely similar. If you can't tell the difference, well I suppose that's just an observational flaw on your part.
One would think drawing the same dogs over and over might even get old.

But yea. I think people should go for their own style moreso than trying to make everything anime just because alot of people simply like the style. There are different styles of anime, too, but make your style your own and not something everyone else can draw, too, eh? xD

Im not saying anime is the only style people should choose for art, because i love photography and realism as much as the next person!

I love Anime too but I hate the way people get those 'jiggly' breasted females under their desc then think they are the shit. WTF? Is all I got to say. If you want to show off, draw your own damn character... Hmm seems I am confusing myself even, Lol. I want to draw Anime, but not like many of those pictures out there. Just to draw humans would make my life happy. Anyways, I guess all I am trying to say is, I am glad you voiced your opinion... someone needed to. (Especially when I seen tons of Anime art on the front page, it's good.. don't get me wring. I enjoy it all but their needs to be some notice given to other styles as well. Unique styles.) I just hate those who copy styles (any artists style) then call it their own. Yuck.. don't make me sick.

I've always drawn anime-like style, for the most part... I taught myself to draw using how-to-draw manga books, and I've developed my own way to draw it. I don't want to change just because five thousand other people like anime, too.

I agree with RIP-sama, even the comments in response to yours in response to his. I know it gets irritating with the balloon-chests, but that's not all of us, okay? We're not lazy because we like it, and try to draw a tad like the style, but still combining our own. I change my style, even microscopically, frequently, and I've been drawing in this vague style for probably about five years now. Maybe six, I lost exact count. I'm not copying anyone, and a lot of others aren't copying, either.

I agree wholeheartedly.

The worst thing is the pretentious attitude of the majority of them. A lot anime artists look down on people, like me, who draw animals. (calling them fur-fags etc.) or even people who draw any kind of cartoons which are not anime. It's as if they think anime-art is something more unique, and requires more skill than something drawn, taking inspiration from the western animation style.

I'm not flaming it in general, I like anime, but a lot of the artists are annoying. More so than other types of artists I find. There are some great anime artists out there though.

I had a subscription this would be going in my journal, definitely.

I completely agree, every manga or anime picture I see looks very, VERY similar if you ask me.

And yes, there are styles that look like Disney styles also, but these tend to look different. I mean, I watch a couple of people who have Disney-styled art, but I always recognise it as theirs when I see it.

But anime art is harder, because anime is more a style on it's own than anything else, so it's hard to change it.

The same can be said about ANY genre though. Ever taken a good look at Marvel girls? Heck yo, if those women were real, their backs would snap in half, what with their huge chests and hips and waist the size of a broom stick.

Or all of the people with a Disney style.

Or all the people with a generic "Western Cartoon" style.

Or basic realism.

Y'know, a lot of anime artists don't like this influx of popularity into the style either. Us older ones anyway. I started drawing in an anime based style when I was 13. That's 11 years ago. Waaaaaay before it was popular. Back when the only anime being shown over here was Sailor Moon. Now the community is so saturated with fans that us older ones who worked our ASSES off learning the basics of the style and learning how to draw the style our own way, are considered "lazy" and "wannabe's", when we never wanted to draw it because it was "cool" or "popular". We just wanted to try something different and new (which it was at the time!) and fell in love with it.

But in the long run, art is all about what we love. And if someone loves drawing in a specific style, I think they should be allowed to do that. Art won't be fun anymore if we can't do what we love.

It's not fair to tell someone they're not equal artists because they draw in a way we don't like. There's lots of people who draw in styles I don't really enjoy, but they're still artists. And their work is still art. Not that that is what you did, or what you're saying, but I read it in some of the other comments. I certainly didn't choose this style because I wanted something "easy", nor am I lazy.

Art shouldn't be about what IS and ISN'T right to us. It should be about drawing what we love.

CelestialWolfen In reply to RIP-sama [2007-09-18 11:49:30 +0000 UTC]

And I never said anime wasn't art, and I also stated that this stamp focuses on anime artist getting their own style but I also hate it when I see anyone follow any style to closely and do not branch out. Your art is among my favorite anime art, it is so stylized and unique and I appreciate and love looking at it. Art is art no matter what, it is just my opinion that artists need to branch out more and find their own styles. I'm not telling anyone to change at all, just stating my opinion. To me everyone is an equal artist and no where did I say that they are not. This stamp does not go for all anime artists,

Try reading the other comments on this deviation and pretend you're me. Seriously. You've dedicated 11 years of your life to this style that you love.

So far we've got that:

- All anime artists draw the same. Thus we're uncreative and ununique.

- We're lazy.

- It's TOTALLY okay to draw AMERICAN styles like Disney. Those are unique. Screw anime artists though.

- Our art is boring.

- It's just a "fad" we're too immature to grow out of. Heaven FORBID we actually like it!

- We're just copycats.

- Oh! And we're over-rated hacks.

Seriously. If you were me and you read that, how would it make you feel?

CelestialWolfen In reply to RIP-sama [2007-09-18 21:52:28 +0000 UTC]

first off I did not say all anime artists draw the same, I noted that a lot do not and that a lot have stylized anime like you in fact you were the person in mind when I said that. I did not say your art was boring, I never said it was ok to draw Disney, I noted at the end and in comments that I do NOT like Disney rip offs and any art that's basically not stylized. I never said you were immature or that it was a fad, I stated that people who obsess over characters as if they were alive in this world need to relax a bit. And I DID NOT say you were hacks. This is my opinion and my opinion is that I wish people, NOT EVERYONE would try to stylize more of them selves. It hurts me that you honestly think I met all that when I made this stamp. Because that is the total opposite |: I enjoy anime and anime art.

I didn't say YOU said it. Read the comments OTHER PEOPLE are leaving on your stamp. That's where I yanked all those things from. I keep saying "I know you didn't say it, other people said it" and you don't seem to be getting that. I even said at the top of my last comment "Try reading the other comments people are leaving on this deviation".

OTHER people are reading your stamp and taking it the wrong way obviously, since they go "We agree with you! Anime art is boring, the artists are lazy!", etc.

I feel like you're not really reading what I'm saying. Because 3 times now I've said "Not you, OTHER PEOPLE" and you're still saying that I'm talking about you. I'm not! Seriously! Look at the OTHER comments! D:

And to be fair, you DID say "I'm tired of people saying ' oh anime is art!'. " That....kinda sounds like you ARE saying anime isn't art, otherwise, why would you be tired of hearing it? Maybe that's not what you meant to say, maybe you worded it wrong, but that....looks REALLY bad, yo.

What I met by that quote is that I'm tired of people, flaming the ones that have opinions about stylizing their art like mine and saying things off the top of their head to hurt us and our opinions. Anime is art and it pisses me off when people say likewise. Once again I AM NOT speaking and saying this applies to all anime artists and for the majority it doesn't! But I am sure the creative artists that made animes such as Naruto, Wolf's Rain, Hellsing, Fruit's Basket, and more are tired of seeing their art ripped off and traced by fans.

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

RIP-sama In reply to CelestialWolfen [2007-09-19 04:51:34 +0000 UTC]

Actually, to tell the truth. They're making so much money and are so well known, I don't think they give a rats behind what fans are doing, so long as they aren't claiming the characters themselves or making heaping loads of money off of them, I don't think they care.

Established, published, big name artists really don't care about some stupid 12 year old tracing a picture and posting it on DeviantART. Seriously. They don't. Caring about that stuff is something the amateur, non-professional art community does. Established artists have WAY MORE IMPORTANT things to do than care about what a child traces. If I was making the kind of money they were, all the stupid little weebo's could trace my art and post it on DeviantART. It's just a mirror image. A copy. A souless, meaningless shell of my art. I'd sit in my nice home and soft chair and laugh at all their pathetic asses. I'd find it pretty darn amusing. Actually, I find it amusing nowadays and I'm not rich and famous. Doesn't hurt my feelings! Tracers are just silly wannabe's with no artistic talent. They aren't hurting me any. Just themselves.

I find stolen art of mine every once in awhile. But no one knows. Because I keep it private or don't mention it at all, report it and I'm done. Am I tired of it? Meh. I realized a long time ago that it's going to happen regardless of my feelings and part of being an artist is to acknowledge that and accept it. Art theft isn't going to stop anymore than the world is going to stop spinning.

Now, STYLE. There's no such thing as style theft. There really isn't. It's something the art community made up and stresses about because it likes to stress and worry about crap. That's the blatant truth. Same as pose theft. They're imaginary.

And in Japan, it's LEGAL to create fanart, in the same style as the original, and sell it. The original artists actually O-K this. You can even create fan-comics, publish them, and sell them! So long as the artwork itself is originally drawn (not traced). It doesn't matter that the styles are similar.

The creator of Naruto is a twin. And this twin draws in nearly the same style. I mean. They're TWINS. They grew up drawing together and learning the same things. And Kishimoto (Naruto's creator) actually had to make a formal announcement because fans were sending hate mail and flames to his twin brother because his style was almost the same.

The creators DON'T CARE. They don't. They know that style is irrelevant. It's the characters and plots and story that make the art. Not the style it's drawn in. And they've got more important things to do than hunt down itty bitty children on DA who just happen to trace an image off of page 345 of their latest manga.

Heck knows I'm not famous and I'VE got better things to do than care who draws like me or who's tracing what.

So in Japan, it's LEGAL. It's welcomed. The creators don't care. You can friggin' draw their characters in a comic you created and not only publish it but sell it. How can it be oh so wrong and hurtful, when by law, fans are allowed to do it? Obviously if the original creators cared, it wouldn't be legal. : P

Now american styles like Disney? Dunno. Don't know much about american laws concerning that stuff because it doesn't apply to me.

Totally with you on this one!

Mostly, anime art just gets boring. There are certainly exceptions--DA is testament to some anime style artists who keep it fresh and who have incredible skill with their media, and I'm kind of partial to the really elegant, delicate manga-esque styles. Some people will do things like maintain anime facial features but draw more realistic bodies, often with interesting results.

But the majority of anime work, either in shows or in fan artwork, is so generic and mediocre, that the sameness makes me want to scratch my eyes out. I also can't help but feel sorry for the artists, because I feel like in many ways, they're really limiting themselves to the constraints of that style of anime. Some of them clearly have potential, but they keep drawing the same pointy hair and doing basic cell shading until their art just gets stagnant. Granted, artists of any style can do this (I'm certainly not immune, ahaha), but it's particularly obvious with anime when there are ten thousand other kids on DA drawing the same Naruto fanart in that identical Naruto style.

Ahah, I feel like anime is the kind of thing that infects a lot of people at some point in their lives (usually junior high--ohh, my Gundam Wing days!), but some people never really grow out of it.
