In this Citizen course Tim Von Rueden takes you through coloring a character from a sketch using solely the soft edge brush. Interesting. I use soft brush, but I make my base layers hard brush. Less cleanup later.

Either works, for this tutorial I painted over the excess color

I think it's indeed a small eraser is used to edge out the silhouette and then erase anything on the outside of it.

Colouring using just soft brushes? Looks simple and effective. I think I'll give this technique a try very soon

ah, but would the base colors be layed out on the same layer as the lineart or the one above/below it? love the leather effect here! x)

if the lineart layer is set to low opacity with multiply then I think that the base colors are on a layer beneath it.

Nice work, I usually like to create a mask or even just block a color in on the character so I can simply delete anything extra as many times as I'd like. This method seems to be working very well for you tho
