Description
Oh boySooo, the new system needs some tweaking.. People seem to keep falling on the jumps, even though the RNG chance is less than 1/25. Unfortunately, Tuesday crashed on the very first jump of her third show into the season. Badly.

[Previous] --Tuesday's Story-- [Next]
WC: 766
Jasper didn't know why he bothered to come in the first place, what with Kylie fussing about in her very business-like tone in the stands at his side and texting away on her phone. He didn't dislike his employer --not by any stretch of the imagination--but he'd quickly learned over the last few weeks that she talked too much and listened too little; a trait that often put her at odds with the horses she tended to purchase.
"--with eight faults. Coming up next is number three; MH Weekday Witchcraft, ridden by Jacklyn Appel."
Well.. that might have had something to do with it.
Jasper lifted his head, eyes roaming across the arena as Tuesday came thundering in with eyes the size of saucers and a head high enough for her ears to touch the clouds --in a truly typical Tuesday fashion. The mare had done alright in her first two competitions, as Kylie endlessly seemed to gush. She'd taken home a fourth and a fifth place in the Open Jumper classes, but Jasper knew that her placings in no way reflected her ability and drive. She jumped a hell of a lot better at home without the sea of distraction that came with a crowd.
A camera clicked from the sidelines as Tuesday launched herself into her high-stepping gait, hooves dicing through the sand below as she danced away from the noise with her head practically bent back in two as if somebody had just tried to throw their soda in her face. Shani looked like she was having a bit of trouble with keeping the mare's feet under control, though to her immediate credit, she looked calm as could be in the saddle and was managing to keep the spooky Thoroughbred on a relaxed rein. Japser had learned that the woman was good at regaining attention and exuding confidence; something that this horse desperately needed in a rider.
Tuesday was collected from herself and guided in a wide, long loop towards the first jump. They'd walked the course and ran it once without issue not an hour beforehand, but something seemed off in the mare's mannerisms as she was brought to a lope, and it had Jasper reaching over to tap at Kylie's shoulder to get her attention. His employer blinked once before glancing up from her phone just as Tuesday came into stride and gathered herself to make the first jump.
'She's over-doing it.' Jasper mused, though his amusement fell quickly as he watched the mare launch herself upwards in an unusually high arch, as though the three foot tall jump might have reached up to claw at her belly.
A collective sense of dread rose, snaking its way through the crowd as a hundred pairs of eyes took in the sight of Tuesday twisting mid-landing. The combined weight of her body and her rider brought her over her center-point of balance, and the twist was a ditched effort to recover herself from the inevitable.
The mare slammed into the arena flooring neck first, legs flailing and hooves slicing through the air as she flipped completely over onto her back. Shani was thrown to ground hard, mere inches from the thrashing bay, and Jasper sat very straight as worry seized him and Kylie's sharp intake of breath joined the collective gasp of the spectators present.
"Come on, get out from under her.." He breathed, though his murmur was drowned out as the intercom calmly requested silence.
Shani rolled and dragged herself backwards a foot or two through the sand, but Tuesday seemed to have enough presence of mind not to bring her legs down on top of her rider. The mare loosed a confused noise --something between a frightened nicker and a blowing snort--before she went to her left and shoved herself up in a lunge. She was visibly shaking, and rather dusty, but it didn't take her half a heartbeat before she was cruising around the arena and dodging people left and right with the whites of her eyes flashing and her reins dangling.
Shani herself looked more dazed than anything, though she indulged the paramedic in letting the man look her over before she came up again to her feet after receiving the 'all clear'.
'One crisis averted.' Relief flooded Jasper, though something nagged at it as he watched Tuesday dance around in a circle as her reins were finally collected by an onlooking handler. There would be no more riding here for them today; Kylie had a veterinarian to consult with.

Ohmygoodness--
Thanks so much man! And yeah, that can be so terrifying! So glad they were okay
My chubby Kiger mustang mare named Sophie slipped in the mud with me (cantering in the rain all.. not smartly many years ago and completely flipped over on top of me and drove me into a foot of mud. We walked away okay, but I'll never forget that moment when she landed!
Oh, the joys of giant animals

Dreams DO come true; people actually read my writing here SOBHUUUUUGGGG--
Thank you so much for your kind words!! Truthfully, I write on other sites and privately way, way more than I art, and while the stuff I produce here isn't very polished, horses are just too fun!
I hope to keep up the ongoing blurb train for HARPG images
