Description
I keep watch, far enough away to be invisible. But when I feel like some overstep their bounds, I approach...Because this thing is too darn complex, I want to show off the setup for it just to get a sense of how much stuff I worked with to get all the effects, from the reflections on the eyes (two isolated xaos loops, one for the brightness, one for some structure making it seem like the reflection had some depth), the the scales around the eye (a xaos loop of like 8 iterators), and the eye itself (one xaos loop). It took me three days to get the eye and shapes around it working, and the base itself was from a planet that looked surprisingly like an eye...so this was a bit more time-intensive than what I usually create these days!

Well, I'll try to keep it simple.
First of all the 'eye' and especially the reflection reminds me of a scene in 'The Name of the Wind' (A book written by Patrick Rothfuss) and I hold this book very dear.
Furthermore the colours seem to fit together perfectly and I like how the focus is on the pupil/reflection in the middle of the eye.
There is a lot more that I notice when looking at this piece of art and most of it is probably just my interpretation but, for me at least, 'Observer' is both colour or theme wise and emotional interpretation wise near to perfection, I'd say.
So for me this is by far the best multi-layer-fractal(layers as in multiple meanings/interpretation options) I've seen!

I would be curious in knowing more about the scene in the book you mentioned

Sure!
So in this world humans posess the power to learn things that one would consider magic. The 'wizards' in this world would call it "sympathy" though. It is basically the learned ability to connect objects and to transfer an action from one to another(Of course there is a lot more to it but this is the basics).
In the scene I mentioned, the main character Kvothe is confronted with a giant lizard that is destroying a small village and setting it on fire due to there being a celebration which involves well...fire(The background story is rather neat as well, the Lizard is actually rather peaceful as long as it does not see/smell fire. It also eats trees)
So Kvothe, after using most of his stamina to extinguish some of the flames he connects a brick, I think with a giant wheel of steel, hanging on a building in front of the lizard. Before collapsing he is able to loosen the wheal and thus throwing it onto the Lizard. It dies instantly as the last of his kind.
This is the basic scene, a lot is explained way better in the actual book.
And me, being a fan if the book, saw the steel wheel and flames as a reflection in the eyes of the lizard. So for me this resembles the last moments of it's life.

It was fun making this, even if it was kinda nightmarish getting all the details in a shape that I found reasonably appealing!

Amazing!!!
thanks for sharing the setup too

Cheers ^^ I'm super happy with how this turned out. The setup was too hilariously complex not to share; I'm kinda glad I was happy with an eye and didn't feel it necessary to make a whole face, because that'd have been insane to create XD

You must feel very proud, the result is super cool... but the way you managed to do it just blows my mind. I work with 4 transforms, and when I add another one I feel like a Nasa engineer and most of the times delete one haha, so when I look at that... I don't know if it amazes me or scares me haha

It can do both, if you want it to
To be honest, most of my artwork up until recently used like 3-5 major transforms, and a detail transform or two. Technically, this fractal's setup can be considered like working with four separate fractals -- all in the editor at the same time.

Very wicked.
What system do you used to make all your fractal art?
(if you don't mind me asking)

Are you curious about the hardware I have, or about the workflow I use? I'd be happy to answer, but need clarification of what you're asking!

Sorry about that.
Actually I would have to say both,I've been inspired by your work,to try something new in the art world, and was curious to know what all you do/use to get to the final piece.

Hardware-wise, I'm running on an i7-2600k@4.5ghz, 16gb ram, and a gtx970. I hope to upgrade soon and use this current setup as a pure rendering rig.
Software-wise, I start out creating a "base" in Apophysis. I either use a gradient I've already created, or create a new gradient in UltraFractal, which I'll add to the Apophysis fractal. I'll then export the fractal to Chaotica and do editing there. I have scripts that allow me to work with xaos loops and inject gradients into the .chaos files, so I can make modifications and speed up parts of my workflow that otherwise would take a bit longer in Chaotica. I'll then do some small vibrance corrections and add a watermark in Photoshop.

Thank you for sharing such with me,I'll be sure to check out what you mentioned.
Keep up the amazing artwork!
