Description
I created this from scratch in Photoshop without any source materials except for one font. It is originally 6000x4000px, but I reduced it 25% of the actual size for the web. This is my second attempt at making a polished wood texture, and it's my first attempt at making any sort of complex cloth or drapery.Related content

This looks great. The variation in textures was wonderfully rendered - The soft, flowing fabric looks great against the hard, smooth wood, and the wood of the decoration looks very convincing. The detail in the middle of the decoration is really amazing; it's very nicely laid out, and again, the different textures, like the shiny gems and cold metal of the axes, really make it pop out.
The shading here also looks very impressive. The way the light is reflecting off the wood in the ornament and the little details really draws the viewer in, and the way it fades out towards the edges makes for a very nice contrast. The only aspect of the piece that looks like it's lacking just a little is the colors of the drape and the wood - The beautiful and convincing details of each get lost slighting since the colors are so similiar. Maybe lightening one or the other would help each retain the great texture.
All in all, this is a really good piece. The attention to detail is amazing, and overall, the colors and lighting do a great job of bringing the viewer in. Best wishes, and keep up the good work!

A mighty fine piece..On a 6000x4000px scale that must have been pretty hard to get right..The mixture of colours is superb, really like the drapery, has nice depth to it, excellent work.

I can only imagine how long it too you to get the textures right; it's breathtaking when one realizes that this was made from scratch. I love the material best, as it seems to capture a life of its own, shimmery and satin-silk fine.
Excellent job, Austin

The texture in the wood is extremely true to reality. I could almost run my hands accross it and feel it's polished nature. I like how you chose it to be a deep rich red wood. Not only does it add to the color scheme, but it draws the eye to it. It is a warm tone that is inviting and gives off the feel of comfortable den. The folds in the cloth are amazing. You did a fabulous job with it. I am sure that you studied how cloth fell on a model in your home before you embarked on doing this image. The plaque you made is also wonderful, rich in detail and texture.

This is really great work. The textures really carry the patterns you'd expect from wood. But something makes my eyes twist a bit. I'm thinking that the wood grain textures on the foreground wood are too aligned with the shape of the wood, almost as if the wood was bent into those shapes instead of carved. Probably just my eyes though. I don't have any problems with the background wood.
