Description This is a rug design I made in Photoshop. I used the selection tool with many layers to create the objects, shapes, lines, and details. Very little to this.

"It is quite obvious that the level of detail inRed Corner Rug is quite amazing, but that isn't the highlight of the piece. `cheneymac did an excellent design job overall. You can simply get lost in the magniture of this project, which turned out some amazing results." Well, I guess I don't need to say anything else. WONDERFUL work!!!

Because I see this more as a rug design than a digital work,
I see the differences between the outer ring and the intricacies
of the insides a tad conflicting. The dreamy and cracked outer
space should (but perhaps not) have a congruency between
the design to keep a steady flow, and from the way I see it,
the most beautiful areas begin (not as though the outer isn't
beautiful) just after the cream.

Now, if it was meant solely for a framing device, forget about what
I just said. The designs are crisp and clear, with a very attractive
symmetrical flow. I really like this - and I think if I were to design
something of this calibre in the textile field, I would consider getting
it materialized for my own center hallway. Excellent work.

This is awesomely detailed - you must have spent lots of hours doing this. Almost everything is just so perfectly arranged. The only thing I would probably change are the three yellow thingies grouped together in the corner of the red area. They just break the smoothness of the flow a bit, though I can't say exactly what kind of a solution would be better.

I already answered this in reply to another comment, so I hope you don't mind that I do a bit of copy/paste:

I first started breaking ground on the image around mid Sep04. It took about a month to plan the boarders and basic color arrangement. It took so long because I completely had to reteach myself to think in terms of abstract design rather than like an illustrator, texturer, or realist. I started work pretty heavy in Nov04 on the design elements of the borders. During all this time I was still in Kuwait, so I was only able to actually work on the image during certain days of the week and at certain times when I could get to a certain computer in my office. I have been home since December, but my of my time has gone to my family, school, and a radio internship. I worked on bits and pieces of it over the months, but progress was slow as I was spending little time on this image. A few weeks ago I took a business trip to Ohio where I started working heavily on the image. Two weeks later it was finally complete.

I am crazy? You should take a look at some of your photos. Some people might think it crazy to crawl around the roof of an old building or do what you did to get some of those animal shots.... You have some great photos!

Sorry if this is informal, but to save time I am going to copy and paste from another reply:

Amazing piece of work. So detailed! Must've taken quite some time to make (even if you just made a quarter and then put it together)! It's got all the intricacy (sp?) of a real oriental rug... awesome!

Comments from people who you admire are always a little more worth then other comments. Hopefully I'll be able to submit some new stuff soon, as I just got my new D70 digicam. Stay tuned.

this is just amazing cheney! incredible work as always.
have you thought about putting tassels around the edges (atleast the top and bottom)?
also, there is a bit of shadow around the rug which makes it look like the rug is just floating there... may look better w/o that.
all in all though, this is wonderful!

👍: 0 ⏩: 1

cheneymac In reply to guesshimself [2005-05-02 01:31:43 +0000 UTC]

I have thought about adding tassles. It seems like a lot of work, and I just wanted to be done at this point. So, I choose to not worry about the tassles after a second thought. Yeah, there is too much shadow, but I fixed this on the rug image for print so I really don't care so much about this one. Thank you so much for your careful observations and well thought out comments.
