Description The musical "Cats" is (c) Andrew Lloyd Webber/T.S. Eliot/The Really Useful Group Ltd. . Feel free to correct me if something is wrong or missing.

I missed more than one oppportunity in my, eh, early youth, to see "Cats" in Germany. And everytime I told myself "One day I'll make it, and until then I won't listen to any CDs or so! my very first Cats shall be directly on the stage!"
Pfeh, well, after a while the taping of an English performance of the show came on TV in my country. I couldn't resist and watched. And ... thought "nice", but was sadly kinda underwhelmed. Looking back I'm kinda sure that the reason was my bad English back then; my English lessons were more or less still at their beginning and so far I couldn't understand much.
Now, just a few weeks ago I borrowed finally a Cats CD from my local library - it's a "Highlights" recording of the first German Cats cast, the premiere of Cats in German was 1983 in Vienna. Boooh, why is there, once again, no complete record of this cast? Because it's fabulous, and it made me finally fall in love with Cats!

P.e., the Viennese Demeter was Ute Lemper who gave her singing voice also to Disney's Ariel, and the Viennese Munkustrap was - SQUEEEEEEEEEEAAAAAAAAAAL - "Raoul" Steve Barton! Though in Germany and Austria he is probably even better known as "Count Krolock" in the "Tanz der Vampire /Dance of the Vampires" musical. Yes, he sings pretty well in German!
So ... I started to ship Munkus and Demeter just ... because ... of their cool voices. Hey, could be worse!

And the clou: A new German "Cats" staging is currently touring in a big top (yes!) through the country. Just a little while after I borrowed the CD I learned that this top will also stop in a city very close to my homeplace! Yeeeeah, I really hope this time I will make it for sure.

... ... If "Cats" would ever be turned into a "real" movie like they did with Webber's Phantom in 2004, I think personally I would prefer an animation - or CGI for all I care. With the cats as real cats à la Aristocats - as nice and sexy actors in cat suits may look like.
