Description
Have you always wanted someone to write a 50 page academic essay on how to credit when using MMD? Well today's your lucky day lad.----------------------------------------------
Today, on the day of my 10th anniversary of becoming an MMDer, I gift to the MMD community 'A Comprehensive Guide to Crediting in MMD- A Tutorial for VTubers, Genshin Impact Fans and MMDers Old and New'.
After a decade of working in this community, I've seen what the MMDC is capable of and how it's developed. We are no longer a Vocaloid exclusive art form- we harbor so many communities such as VTubers, Genshin Impact, games enthusiasts, anime enthusiasts OC creators and realism artists. MMD is getting more and more popular by the year, and I believe we are at the height of its popularity in the Western world.
However, with the community growing and MMD becoming a more widely used platform for not only hobbyists, but professional artists, so comes the need to educate the newbies. An artist new to MMD (and potentially online art communities altogether) will not know how our culture works- especially when it comes to crediting. And so, to help them on their journey to becoming a culturally aware and respected MMDer, I have written my newest MMD tutorial all about how to credit, why we credit and how crediting works in the MMDC.
It covers everything you need to know about crediting when using MMD, with exploration into various areas of crediting such as:
-Why do we credit and why does the MMDC take it so seriously
-The most popular crediting rules broken down into easy-to-understand paragraphs
-The consequences of not crediting
-Where to find crediting information
-Crediting culture in the various sects of the MMDC
-Which is the best way to credit to obey the creator's rules
-How to make your credits section look aesthetic and pretty
-Programs and websites that can help you credit
-How to approach someone who is breaking the rules
This guide is aimed at new MMDers, however old MMDers are welcome to have a read, and you may get clarity on areas you never knew about!
If you would like to download this guide, you are more than welcome to.
I am also always open to new information being added to this guide if it comes about. New information such as developments in the community that occur after this initial publication, areas that have not yet been considered and should be added, inaccuracies in the guide that need to be corrected, or the adding of new and better sources. If you think anything in the guide should be added/changed, there is information within the guide to tell how to contact me with your ideas. In the event that the essay is updated, it will be added in this description, and on the final page of the guide.

Thank you so much to everyone who has contributed to the writing of this essay! Everyone from the people who answered my questions on Twitter, DeviantART and in various Discord Servers, to the people who got beta access to my guide and proofread all 47 pages and provided feedback, I couldn't have done it without you. This guide is the result of a month's work, and I finished it in 9662 words. That's nearly as long as my Bachelors dissertation (which, incidentally, I submitted exactly two years ago).
This guide took me a very long time to finish, and I distribute all my MMD work for free. However, as a professional content writer, content creator and social media manager who is currently unemployed and trying to raise money to study for a Masters and PhD, please consider donating to my Coffee Page . All proceeds go towards funding my Masters degree in English Literature, and it would mean the world to me if you could send me a lil tip for the work I do for this community. Help me become a Doctor of Literature one day!
